Single In The City: “iDating U… Really?!!?”

internet-datingClark Kent says: The Internets is a dope place. Always has been. Since dial-up and AOL, I’ve been connected to the Matrix… hell before it was called the Matrix, even. So, I went back and dug up some old saved conversations I had when I used to be on BlackPlanet and came across a gem.

My old screenname was a character from a short story that I wrote and I figured that the name – Diago Marx – would get the girls a-callin’. Why? I don’t know… I was 15, give me a break [laughs]. Anyhoo… There was this girl who lived not too far from me and we struck up a conversation originally in the chatroom. Remember those?

She was an avid basketball fan and rooted for the Indiana Pacers. For you young bucks, the Pacers used to be a threat with Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson and Rik Smits… Looking back she knew her stuff, too. We debated on how the rest of the league stacked up to the East, why the Knicks would never win a championship and wondered if Shawn Kemp and Grandmama were the same person.

katt-williams-internet-datingThe girl was definitely fly. But thing was she lived in Cleveland. Truly a journey to a kid with some temps and a 1988 Plymouth Voyager van as his whip. So, our convos were mainly just that, online musings between two folks with youth and hormones raging through our bodies.

BlackPlanet used to be the destination for things just like that… and for some folks it still is. But back in that time, you were surfing the site for the finest black or Migente tail that you could find. I just happened to luck out. I never made the trip though.

f_blackdatingm_cab9e12There’s something to be said about the human instinct. It will let you know when you least expect it. Peep the conversation below:

Girl: Hey boo…
Me: Hey.
Girl: So, what should we do for our anniversary?
Me: Huh?
Girl: We’ve been chatting booski’s for 4 four months now…
Me: ::logs off::

I don’t know. Something just didn’t settle right in my stomach. iDating, you… really? How? We’ve never met. I was doing half of the things that I was doing when I was trying to date in my own high school. The experience was scary. We never met in person — a fact that I’m still proud of today — but now that Internet Dating is a big business, are we wookin’ pa nub in all the wrong places?

What do YOU think? Can love be found on the web? Or are we just one click away from heartache? Speak on it in the comments section!

    I think internet dating is crazy. We need to just start getting into real dating again. The courting and really going for the girl. I think love has become a joke...idating, really? No bueno.

    idk about internet dating in chat rooms.. but theres two sides (the way i see it) : connecting with someone via www can reveal a lot about a person that may have taken 1.. 2.. 3.. 9 dates to uncover. ppl are generally more open when they have a screen to hide behind. ...also, via www, u may connect with someone u would never encounter during your day to day routine, but is actually an amazing person. but on the other side -- the person on the other side of the screen may be creating a whole facade of who they are and what theyre about. ..technically, i dont see how one can "iDate" since dating for me, requires me to actually be in the same place/space as the person... but id never completely rule out meeting someone online.. then actually connecting with them in person and seeing what happens from there. but im a pretty open minded person :)
