Anthony Maldonado Killed While Playing PlayStation

Nine year old Anthony Maldonado was ecstatic to receive a Playstation 3 for Christmas. While visiting his family in Harlem, he was playing Tony Hawk: Ride on the console when he was stabbed to death by 25 year old family friend Alejandro Morales.

The murder occurred at 3:30 AM in the Harlem apartment of Anthony’s uncle. Anthony, Alejandro and two brothers who lived in the apartment were playing the game when the brothers decided to go buy food. They left at 3 AM, and shortly afterwards, at 3:30 AM, Anthony was stabbed in the chest. New York City police reported that Anthony suffered from a stab wound to the chest while family members added that there were facial lacerations and bruising on his arms that indicated a struggle.

According to the New York Daily News, Anthony’s grandfather, Antonio Juela said, “Anthony was playing … on PlayStation when his friend came and stabbed him. My grandson died over a video game.”

Anthony Maldonado was from Palisades Park, New Jersey and was spending the holiday’s with his grandfather. The night of the murder, he was staying in his uncle’s apartment, which was near to his grandfather’s. While no motive has been announced by the New York Police Department, it has been speculated that a fight broke out over the game, resulting in the stabbing and Anthony’s death.

“Anthony was a loving child who loved his Playstation. He got the Playstation for Christmas and was very happy. He was so happy,” said Antonio Juela, Anthony’s grandfather.

The murder resulted in the arrest of Alejandro Morales. He has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
