VIRGINIA SLIMS: Experience True Life With Kirsy Lovett
Clark Kent says: I had the pleasure of working with Kirsy Lovett during out time served at Radio One. Equipped with a bigger-than-life persona, she not just another model with model-like tendencies. Find out more about this week’s VIRGINIA SLIM after the jump.
Kirsy Lovett, the self-proclaimed “Manhattan Debutante”, has always went after accomplishing her goals. Most recently the former Kid Robot saleswoman made a few jealous one’s envy as she was chosen by William Yan to be featured in his “24 Tastemakers in 24 Hours” piece that ran on his site. Fueled by the need to be creative, Ms. Lovett hopes to take her business degree from CUNY, her eye-catching good looks, and sly sense of humor, and apply it to her continued purpose in life. In this week’s VIRGINIA SLIM Kirsy Lovett talks about her most random experiences, reminiscences on her video game virginity, and pitches her own MTV True Life episode.
DLYDJ: Growing up as a youngin’ how many home movies did you make?
KL: None. [Laughs] Growing up my family couldn’t afford one. But we did take a lot of pictures though. [Laughs] If anything I have more home movies now that I’m older! My friend Bibi would be a co-star. She’s sitting right next to me and has really big boobs, which I don’t have, so it’d balance the sex appeal out. It’d be a romantic comedy called There She Goes… Again [laughs]. The plot would be about my friend and I and the crazy things that go on during our slumber party. We’d have a really dope soundtrack and folks who went to go see it would see us in our bra and panties… but let’s leave the rest for the imagination [laughs]. I’d really like to have a “True Life” story — like on MTV. I don’t know what the title would be, but it’d be about finding myself career wise, sexuality wise and disconnecting myself from the people around me so I can really evaluate myself as a person without the influence of others. I’d learn from someone who’d allow me to experiment in different lifestyles to see where I feel most comfortable and just be spontaneous with it enough to learn from it. I live by this quote, “I rather regret doing something than regret not doing it at all.”
DLYDJ: If you had to list your top five most random moments — what would they be?
KL: [Laughs] Once I got paid $100 bucks to stand in place and hold a parking spot for someone. That was random. There was a time when I was on Twitter and I found two of my roommates on there. Both hipsters. [Laughs] One being a singing black hipster and the other was a smelly white hipster. Everyone has had this happen to them or else they don’t live in New York… falling asleep on the train. Once I dozed off and ended up in the tip of Coney Island. I don’t know how all that happened, but I ended up sleeping on the boardwalk, as I waited for someone to pick me up. There was this one time where I booked a job solely on my sense of humor. I got hired for a magazine shoot because the guy said, “Models aren’t funny.” I thought it was funny [laughs]. I think my number five is pretty random. I mean everyday in Bed-Stuy is pretty random, you know? But the crackheads never cease to amaze me when they yell out obscenities all loud like that in the middle of the night. They always call me “London” or “Theo” — I just have to sit back and laugh at it all.
DLYDJ: So, did you regret losing your video game virginity? When did you lose it?
KL: I think that I was three. I played my older cousins. We’d play ‘Mario Cart’ for the Nintendo 64. At first I didn’t know how to play but I was interested in learning so I stayed at his house for a week straight so I could learn. I got so into it that my palms were sweater. I felt like I was apart of the game. I don’t really play any more games except for ‘Grand Theft Auto’. If I had to compare myself to anyone from ‘GTA’ than I’d be Claude. His “I-don’t-give-a-fuck” attitude is like mines and when he performs his tasks he’s like his own boss. I’ve been a boss all my life.
DLYDJ: If you could have only one great love song to have as yours for the rest of all times — what would it be?
KL: “All Falls Down” by Kanye West. In life, everything that comes up must come down, and as perfect as things may seem you have to prepare yourself for failure as well as success. I’ve been blessed to experience a few in my lifetime. I opened myself up to a relationship and gave it my all. I wasn’t really able to do that before. In the end, I was even prepared for the failure of that relationship. I found out that that person wasn’t meant for me. I left brokenhearted but more wiser from it. I learned from the failure and it was a success to go through this.
DLYDJ: In this new digital age — what are some things that men and women have to be careful of when trying to engage in a relationship?
KL: Miscommunication via technology. That is important to make sure that is taken care of. You should also protect yourself from being hurt, but don’t hold past experiences against the new person in your life. There’s no specific way to protect yourself, every situation is different, you just have to be aware. For example: Don’t go into a relationship with a person with a bad rep thinking you’ll be able to change them. You can’t. When you’re well into the relationship and they do something to hurt you, don’t be surprised because you knew from the beginning that this was what you were getting yourself into. My own break-up was a result of BIG miscommunication and letting friends influence how we were with each other. We’d act different around our friends than how we were when we were alone. In my next relationship, I’d want someone to be honest with me. I’ll be honest with you! Other than that… just have fun and enjoy being with one another, because when it becomes a chore to be with each other and you’ve lost the butterflies then it’s no fun anymore.
