In Prototype 2 you play as Sgt. James Heller. He’s lost his family, and he’s infected with the very virus that created the monster responsible for taking them away from him. Now he’s got nothing to lose. Throughout the course of the events in Prototype 2, you’ll watch as Heller uses the powers granted to him by this curse to exact revenge on Alex Mercer and the entirety of Blacklight.

The live-action trailer takes Heller from some dude in the game and turns him into a living, breathing person that players can sympathize with. The music, the camera shots, and the demonic smile on Alex Mercer’s face all play into creating a story that impresses many a player in the community.

In what could become the definitive 3D game experience, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops will also be playable in stereoscopic 3D when the game launches at retail outlets worldwide on November 9th.

Activision Publishing, Inc. today revealed that the game will be compatible with 3D-ready HDTVs and 3D PCs utilizing state-of-the-art active shutter 3D glasses, delivering true depth of field and an unprecedented level of immersion that is perfectly suited for the Call of Duty action experience. Call of Duty: Black Ops will be playable in both 3D and non-3D on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.

“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops. The first trailer for NASCAR 2011: The Game aired over the weekend on US TV.

The game was announced last Thursday by Activision for a February 2011 release on PS3, 360 and Wii, with UK developer Eutechnyx handling it.

The UK company told VG247 in a later interview there would be no PC version thanks to a “lack of retail space.”

Activision’s just formally announced NASCAR The Game 2011, to developed by UK-based developer Eutechnyx.

The game will release for PS3, 360 and Wii.The news confirms what’s been known since last week, and will be the first game in the sport since EA Sports had the IP. “It was crucial to take a fresh look at what makes the sport so popular,” said Eutechnyx EVP, Ed Martin.“We’re working very closely with NASCAR, the drivers, the teams, the tracks and the sponsors to get all the minute details right, and give this game the polish and push the fans deserve.”

“The NASCAR videogame fanbase has been underserved for a long time and we’re bringing them something very special,” added David Oxford of Activision. The game will allow you to either play as yourself or any real-life driver in NASCAR, while 22 tracks will also be in the game. The cars, meanwhile, and the damage they pick up will be “meticulously detailed” with multi-car wrecks “the most extreme ever experienced in an officially licensed racing game.”

NASCAR 2011 also features online multiplayer, where 16 players will compete. You’ll also be able to “earn NASCAR experience points” in online and offline races “which help unlock rewards such as decal packs or special car designs, as well as career sponsorships and special races throughout career mode.”

Clark Kent says: The best thing about my job is that I get a chance to see all the hot new games before they hit the stores. The bad thing about it… well you can find that out after the jump.

Yours truly is already having a bad day. Rushing to make it out to the W Hotel in Times Square, NYC, I am in a hurry because this may be my only chance to get my hands on some of the goodies that Activision is planning for the fourth quarter. There were quite a few other gaming journos in the place, but I was already infused with the spirit of El Competito, and wasn’t trying to hobknob with the locals. Why? The titles being introduced represented the best in competitive gaming as well as some web-flair from your neighborhood local superhero.

Goldeneye 007, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Tony Hawk’s: Shred, and Call of Duty: Black Ops were on the bill and with the holidays fast approaching I needed to be able to make sure YOU aren’t going to waste your money. First up on the list was the Nintendo 64 remake for the Wii…

Goldeneye 007:

Judi Dench. David Doak. Nintendo Wii. Add those three things with the brute strength of Daniel Craig and you have a wonderfully up-to-date game ready for the next gen gamer. Visually the game is an early indicator to what high definition on the Wii will look like for years to come. The classic Nintendo 64 title hasn’t lost its luster as improvements to the gameplay are noticeable.

Players can now breach their way into rooms with the bullet-time giving one the ability to pick off enemies before more are alerted. An element of real world destructibility is welcomed and, of course, the multi-player is the $#!*. The gamer journos and I faced off in a deathmatch and while nothing was on the line — it was up to yours truly to show off his skills. Playing as Oddjob — I took on all comers with 10 kills, a whopping 4 kill streak, and only died 5 deaths. The journos tipped their hat to the young budding star and we left thoroughly impressed with Goldeneye 007. The game has no firm date but is scheduled for a November release. Next up was…

Spider-Man – Shattered Dimensions:

The plot is simple: During a skirmish between Spider-Man and Mysterio, the “Tablet of Order and Chaos” shatters, causing problems within the alternate (and multiple) Marvel Universe realities. Madame Web calls upon the different versions of Peter Parker’s alter-ego to bring the realities back into the balance. The characters are reflected in The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, and a symbiote-bonded Ultimate Spider-Man.

The gameplay is reflective of the characters. Light, dark, and the usage of stealth are emphasized in the Noir levels, while in Ultimate mode, Spidey’s rage mode will rise the more baddies he knocks out. Each world is different with three levels within the four worlds. In the end — Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will be fun for any fan of the franchise — and has taken a huge left turn from former failed attempts. Working closely with Marvel greatly helped! Call of Duty – Black Ops:

Out this November, and after all the hype about the Activision/Infinity Ward drama, Treyarch grabs the reigns to present another first person shooter to the masses. Focusing more on storytelling than just explosions and bloody violence, gamers will find themselves set between the historical battles of the 1960s — all the way to the present-day wars of 2010. With four missions from “WMD,” “Payback,” “Victor Charlie,” and “Slaughter House,” gamers will be treated to a visually stunning and gruesomely graphic game. On this go-around enemies do not automatically regenerate and levels can be cleared out. Even though I didn’t get a chance to get my hand’s on the game — “Payback” — was easily one that made jaws drop.

Gamers in control of a helicopter in Laos, you’re presented with an intuitive flight scheme that’s easy to learn, just drive! Treyarch uses a vehicle component in a manner that hasn’t been used before. No load times, textured streaming, and a rebuilt lighting dynamics — the explosions executed by the gamers are actually art enhancements. Major John Plaster was a huge influence on the game, which is how the crossbow got introduced into the game, and it can be equipped with an attachable explosive device. Heavily scripted, with a separate dedicated co-op, four player online campaign co-op, and very detailed for high def consumption, Black Ops is three games in one. FYI: This is the first shooter to use full performance capture (see: Avatar) which translates very well in this game due out in November 9th. Last, but not least, I saw…

Tony Hawk – Shred:

Seeing a kid on a board is enough to warm anyone’s heart about what you’re going to see. On the Wii version of Tony Hawk’s skating franchise, gamers are able to create your own Mii character, and the theme this go-around is BIG. Big tricks, big rides, and big lifts — gamers can even snowboard this time. While no one is ignoring the adults, this game is rated E for everyone, and is one for all to enjoy.

On the Xbox version you can import your avatar and is a perfect title for the family to enjoy. Reaction time has improved and the board has received a makeover that I hope will not be across the board for all the consoles. Cute kid. He had more energy than anyone else in the room. He doesn’t come with the game though — which is out this holiday season.
