Glee’s Dianna Agron and Moon’s Dominique McElligott are the latest two names to be added to the short list for the female lead in Marc Webb’s 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, says a report at Deadline.

Also coming out-of-left-field is the rumor that Phillip Seymour Hoffman may be up for the part of Venom.

The current list of rumored Spider-Man candidates now includes Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska, Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I Am Number Four), Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine’s Day) and Emma Stone (Zombieland, Easy A).

Though the Hoffman-as-Venom rumor may sound incredulous, it is possible that it is the result of some crossed wired. In the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Venom is a scientific creation of Eddie Brock’s father who, working with Peter Parker’s father, created the suit in an attempt to cure cancer. Though it’s pure speculation at this stage, it could be the elder Brock that Hoffman is in talks for.

24 executive producer Howard Gordon has teamed up with Jonathan Levin and writer Mark Bomback to develop NBC drama Legends, reports Variety.

The hour-long show “centers on a CIA operative who has a knack for creating false identities (‘legends’ in agency speak). But while on those missions, he begins to wonder whether his own identity is fiction as well.”

Bomback will write and executive produce the 20th Century Fox TV series, while Levin and Gordon are also executive producers on the project, based on a book by Robert Littell.

Britney Spears will make a cameo appearance on the upcoming “Glee” episode that will be devoted to the pop star’s music, the show’s creator Ryan Murphy said Tuesday.

“Britney, I think 100 percent, is going to be on the episode. She is going to join us for a couple of scenes,” Murphy said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest.

Murphy did not say what character Spears would play in the episode, but did mention that Spears’ music would play out as fantasy sequences. Some of the Glee high school show choir characters will be in the dentist’s chair and will hallucinate about being like the singer.

Shawn Levy and 20th Century Fox will adapt Judith Viorst’s classic children’s book “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” into a high-concept family comedy, reports Variety.

Clark Kent says: My generation should be familiar with this book and the cartoon short of the same name. Classic.

Levy’s production company 21 Laps (Night at the Museum films) will develop and produce the project. The Jim Henson Co. holds the film rights to the story and is assigning them to Fox.

Rob Lieber will write the screenplay, though Levy is not yet set to direct.

The 1972 book revolves around family members collectively enduring the worst day of their lives. In the book, Alexander’s day goes from bad to worse after he wakes up with gum in his hair.

Viorst wrote two other titles in the “Alexander” series.

Conan O’Brien, the host of “The Tonight Show,” rejected NBC’s effort to effectively demote him, casting doubt over his future at the General Electric Co. network.

Mr. O’Brien indicated Tuesday he won’t participate in NBC’s plans to move “The Tonight Show” a half hour later to accommodate “The Jay Leno Show” at 11:35 p.m. Eastern time.

“‘The Tonight Show’ at 12:05 simply isn’t the ‘Tonight Show,’” Mr. O’Brien said in his statement laced with tough talk for NBC but also humor. The statement was addressed to “People of Earth” and ended with Mr. O’Brien apologizing for his trademark bouffant hairdo.

Mr. O’Brien’s public stance appears to be an effort to force NBC’s hand. The question now is whether NBC will back down from its late-night shakeup or work out his exit.

NBC declined to comment.

Gavin Polone, Mr. O’Brien’s manager, declined to say whether NBC’s proposed schedule change or Mr. O’Brien’s departure would constitute a breach of Mr. O’Brien’s contract.

“You want to know what Conan wants? What he was promised: 11:35,” Mr. Polone said. “This whole thing could end right now.”

The 46-year-old Mr. O’Brien, who took over “The Tonight Show” from Mr. Leno just seven months ago, said losing the show would be “an enormous personal disappointment,” but he added: “I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction.”

He said he has no other offer and has “no idea what happens next.”

A departure by Mr. O’Brien would undo NBC’s efforts since 2004 to placate its two biggest late-night stars. The network had retained a restive Mr. O’Brien by promising him the “Tonight” chair in five years. As the hand-off neared, NBC gave Mr. Leno a spot in prime time.

Fox has had informal talks with Mr. O’Brien’s circle about his hosting a late-night show on the network. A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment.

Fox and The Wall Street Journal are owned by News Corp.

Fox is developing a CIA-themed project from writer Harris Wilkinson (Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming) and Peter Chernin’s new 20th Century Fox TV-based production company, reports Variety.

Chernin will executive produce the drama script through his Chernin Entertainment. Katherine Pope and Lauren Stein will also executive produce, and Len Wiseman is on board to direct.

Sebastian Roche will play a new villain on Fox’s “Fringe” in a recurring role, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Roche plays Pedro in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

ComingSoon has learned that 20th Century Fox will premiere a new movie trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar in theaters this Friday, October 23rd. According to the site, the trailer is 3-and-a-half minutes long and won’t be online until October 29th. There aren’t really any new 3D releases out right now, so the trailer will be presented, for the most part, in 2D.

It’s a shame that Fox is jumping into the marketing for this film so late in the game, as they had numerous opportunities to attach trailers to big tentpole 3D releases this summer, but instead chose to have a late start. The Avatar footage is 100 times more impressive on the big screen in 3D.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Avatar will premiere on “about 3,000 3D screens in about 2,700 theaters.” The tradepaper predicts that the film is “expected to open north of $75 million.”
