It looks like Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith just locked another film under his belt- with his father’s assistance, of course.

We hear that Overbrook Entertainment (owned by Will Smith), along with Disney is set to produce a new film titled Monster Witness Relocation Program, which we hear is a script based on the young adult novel titled Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless.

It seems that Disney had their eyes on this film a couple of years ago and acquired rights to in 2005 for $1.5 million, from Michael Wilson and Ahmet Zappa.

Word is that young Jaden Smith is expected to star in movie, although that hasn’t officially been confirmed yet.

After doing some research to discover what the script would be about we were unsuccessful, but the book description states this on Amazon: “When 11-year-old Minerva McFearless and her younger brother, Max, discover that they are the latest generation in a family of monster-hunters, their widowed father forbids them to learn anything about his dangerous occupation. Nonetheless, the siblings soon come upon Ms. Monstranomicon, a monster-hunter’s manual that is a monster herself, and find themselves pursued by the minions of the vile Zarmaglorg, king of the monsters, who kidnaps their father.”

Now since the titled character in the book is a girl we think that the script is going to be written with Jaden in the lead and the script re-written for him as a male lead. I also expect the character’s younger brother to be written for his younger sister as in the book because in the book the younger sibling is a boy. So, this may be the perfect role for Jaden’s sister Willow Smith and introduced in that role.

As of this writing, there is no more details on the story, but as we get the facts we will relay them to you.

With Jaden’s Smith’s Dre Parker as the new Daniel Larusso and Jackie Chan as Mr. Han standing in for Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi, this still looks and sounds for all intents and purposes like a straight retelling of the original’s story.

Lonely youth moves to new place (in this case, Beijing) with his mother to start a new life. Falls afoul of local bullies who don’t like his attitude or his cornrows or just the fact that he’s the new face in the school. He’s rescued and then taught how to defend himself by a kindly local maintenance man who turns out to be a badass fighter.

Though given the emphasis on kung fu – Han’s line about how “everything is kung fu” is front and centre in the trailer – we still wonder why this isn’t called The Kung Fu Kid.

Can it ever hope to live up to the standards of the original? Can we even dream that The Karate Kid do-over will crane-kick us in the head the way that first film did?

Clark Kent says: I say this flick will appeal to a new generation and HOPEFULLY they’ll go out and pick up the original to get that Karate Kid magic.

Can Jaden “son of Will” Smith fill Ralph Macchio’s shoes? Well, here’s a step to answering these important questions: the first official stills from the film.

Here we see Jaden as “Dre”, the son of a single mother (Taraji P. Henson) who has to relocate to China when his mother’s job forces her to move there.

Lonely at first, he meets Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who teaches him karate and becomes an unlikely friend via the medium of waxing on and waxing off. Then, we’re saying, he ends up crane-kicking the local bully into the middle of next week.

Jackie Chan is set to star in The Spy Next Door, an action-comedy to be financed by Relativity Media and directed by veteran studio helmer Brian Levant, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Robert Simonds, a longtime comedy producer on such movies as The Pink Panther and the Adam Sandler films The Wedding Singer and Big Daddy, will produce. Solon So will executive produce. Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh will produce, and Tucker Tooley will executive produce.

Jonathan Bernstein and Jim Greer are writing the screenplay for Spy, which centers on a man (Chan) who is called to baby-sit his neighbor’s children and winds up having to fight off secret agents after one of the kids inadvertently downloads a secret code.

This is the first set photo from the Will Smith-produced remake/re-imagining of The Karate Kid, which thankfully has officially been retitled The Kung-Fu Kid. What are they doing? Find out after the jump.

Jaden Smith plays Dre, a skateboarding video game buff who is forced to move to China after his single mother (Taraji P. Henson) is forced to transfer to the China for work. Of course, unable to speak Chinese, Dre finds it hard to settle in, and gets beat up by the local bully. Jackie Chan plays Mr. Han (the Mr. Miyagi character), a maintenance man who spots Dre’s black-eye and offers to teach him both martial arts and Chinese, so he can defend against the students of Li Quan Ha’s Fighting dragon school of Kung-Fu.
