Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man) and Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover) have signed on to star in The Duplass Brothers’ stoner comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home.

The Duplass brothers, Jay and Mark Duplass are writing and directing for producers Jason Reitman via his Right of Way Films and John Malkovich via his Mr. Mudd shingle.

The film has been described as a Sword in the Stone-style quest movie about a stoner’s search for some wood glue. The story takes place over the course of one day, and follows two brothers, “one a loser who lives at home” (Segel) and the other “more together but overbearing” (Helms). The role of their mother has not yet been cast. Judy Greer is in talks to play Helms’ wife. Shooting is set to begin in Louisiana in April 2010.

Jason Segel and John Michael Higgins are in talks to co-star in Jake Kasdan’s Bad Teacher.

The comedy stars Cameron Diaz as Elizabeth Halsey, a foul-mouthed, conniving seventh-grade teacher who is dumped by her sugar daddy, and begins to woo the school’s model teacher, and starts a bitter rivalry with his girlfriend, her squeaky-clean colleague Amy Squirrel (played by Lucy Punch).

Segel will play the gym teacher, Higgins plays the principal Wally Snur, while the model teacher role remains uncast. Segel had previously be rumored to be in the running for the film, competing with Bradley Cooper for the role. It might be possible that they were after Cooper for that role? The screenplay charted on the 2008 Blacklist and was penned by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, who also wrote Year One and penned Ghostbusters 3. Kasdan’s directorial credits include Zero Effect, Orange County, The TV Set and the Judd Apatow-produced Walk Hard.

Right now in the world of TV comedy, Tina Fey and Steve Carell are the ‘Prom Queen and King’, and with all that popularity comes the price of raised expectations. The couples comedy Date Night, starring Fey and Carell as a married couple looking to spice up their romance, was bound to be scrutinized.

So now that the first trailer has arrived (via Apple), reactions have been mixed. But there’s hope for this film, if for no other reason than the fact that Fey and Carell are some of the most talented comedians working right now (although I’m still holding out for Fey to start writing some more movies of her own).

Date Night was directed by Shawn Levy (of Night at The Museum fame) and written by Josh Klausner, who only has a couple of credits as a writer (mainly for Shrek films). But Klausner has also worked with the Farrelly brothers, so he must know his way around a joke, right? There’s a strong supporting cast of funny folks like James Franco, Mila Kunis, Jason Segel, and Kristen Wiig.

Clark Kent says: Neither Carrell or Fey have lost their comedy magic, but while this film stands unrated, it could end up being a 40-Year-Old Virgin sleeper hit, right? You be the judge. Peep the trailer below!
