Every guy has dreams of having his favorite girl gaming character on his arm at some point. Whether its walking into the room with Lara Croft; busting your guns in the street with Samus; or even play fighting with Tifa — it’s no secret that every badass gamer needs an even radder gaming girl. With that in mind, Don’t Lose Your Day Job proudly present VIRGINIA SLIMS—showcasing the best digital video game vixens on this side of the InternetS!

From week to week, we’ll profile the sexiest women that you need to know about. Allow us to introduce you to first-time interviewee Kenya Ture! A graduate from the University of Akron, the 20-something-year-old relocated from the Midwest to New York in hopes of cultivating her “Empire State of Mind”. In this week’s installment of VIRGINIA SLIMS, Ms. Ture shares her origin story with us, professes her attraction to two of Roc Nation‘s finest, and let us in on how she would like to lose her video game virginity.

:: GAME ON ::

Don’t Lose Your Day Job: Name two people you are attracted to in the industry you’re in and why? What would you like people to be attracted to when it comes to you?

Kenya Ture: Jay-Z and Rihanna—no doubt. I love their story. I appreciate their climb to the top. I believe they produce sound material while maintaining an exciting image. Overall, I feed off of their drive! I want success just how they want it. Personally, I would like people to be attracted to my determination and resilience. In my book—work ethic is everything. I want people to find themselves going after what it is they really wish to achieve in life after hearing my story. Whatever held them back in the past—my story will liberate them,

DLYDJ: PS3 or Xbox 360?

KT: Neither.

DLYDJ: Uh, okay… No Nintendo? Wii? Sega? Nothing?!

KT: I’m an only child. I didn’t grow up playing [video] games. I grew up listening to music and reading magazines.

DLYDJ: Talk about your journey which took you from small town Ohio to the bright lights of New York City?

KT: It all began at the age of thirteen. I visited NYC one summer and absolutely fell in love. There was something intangible that connected me to this city that I simply could never shake. I decided when I came of age that I would permanently relocate here. My family requested that I completed my Bachelor’s in Communication before taking off —and I honored their request. In May of 2010, the University of Akron handed me my degree. That following month I was on a plane to New York City with two bags!

When I got here I was baffled at the length of time it took me to land a job. There were media shouts coming from the Left [Wing] and Right [wing] screaming, “RECESSION!” during 2010. I didn’t think that someone fresh out of college; age 22; armed with a drive that must be reckoned with—would actually find a dilemma with employment. It hurt. Meanwhile, my family remained supportive, and I remained persistent.

DLYDJ: Speaking of persistent… Since you still have your video game virginity in tact—have you ever thought about how you would like to lose it?

KT: [Laughs] Oh, wow! Actually, I have… I would like one of my guy friends to teach me how to play. I’m very interested in becoming an unofficial sniper, so I want a shooting game that gets my skills up [laughs]! I just hope my first time experiencing that is something thrilling; something that gets my adrenaline up!

DLYDJ: If you could then have cyber sex with one video game character—who would it be and why?

KT: Although, I am not familiar with video game characters, I would most definitely choose whichever character that was the boss!

DLYDJ: There’s still a small group of folks who don’t believe that gorgeous girls (or gamers) exist in the Midwest, but since you’ve proven them wrong—what are five things you want everyone to know about Kenya Ture that no one else may know?

KT: 1) I am a devout Christian. I get on my knees every morning and every night before bed and humble myself before God. People know I love God, but I don’t think they know just how much I reverence him. 2) I have a deep passion for excellence and consistent disciplined behavior—while also loving to party. I somehow make it work. 3) My grandmother is my bestie. 4) My mother is Black and my father is Italian. 5) I am going to become 100% of who I desire to be…or die trying!

DLYDJ: If you had the opportunity to rule the video gaming world, you would…?

KT: I would want to dominate any other force. I would need dominion and power over all. I would also need to be a ninja. Truthfully, I’m competitive by nature, and though my experience in the gaming industry is little—my mission is always to win!

DLYDJ: Last question, Kenya… The best way for guys to convince their girl to start gaming would be to…?

KT: The best way is to invite her to participate with you! She’ll feel welcomed instead of disregarded. Everyone knows when a man is playing the game women don’t matter. Introducing her to your favorite game and getting her involved will be totally awesome. I like heavy artillery!

Scruffy McGhee says: Wanna see if you can pop Kenya’s gaming cherry? Make sure to follow her @EmpressKENYA and you already know where to find us!

More after the jump.

You can only hope to get lost in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn and run into Tatiana Harvey. The born and bred 21-year-old Brooklynite fell into modeling as a hobby, yet has focused her talents on being a mogul of the future. Pursuing her own dreams and putting her best foot forward is an attribute the Jamaican Queen holds dear to her career. This week’s VIRGINIA SLIM talks with Don’t Lose Your Day Job about being the sexier version of Martha Stewart, champions her Tekken fighting spirit, and drops jewels for those “dating dummies” out there in the world. Enjoy!

DLYDJ: What made you want to venture down the road into model mogul-dom?

TH: [Laughs] I guess I could say the urge came about three years ago. I wanted to be an actress, a model, and a designer. My dream is to be the sexier version of Martha Stewart. I absolutely love the idea of being an Alpha woman, being able to do all the things that I put my mind to. I can do some things that Martha Stewart can’t! For starters, I can look good in a bikini [laughs], I can lead with both my beauty and my brains, and I use what the good Lord has given me and make it work just like any woman should do.

DLYDJ: Name five ways to impress a significant other with your Martha Stewart skills. How does that help a relationship to blossom?

TH: [Laughs] Wouldn’t everyone like to know?! Honestly, I’m a really great cook. I love to cook, however, I hate to clean. I’m very funny, loving, caring… oh, did I mention that I like baking, too? In any relationship everyone has to have an active and involved part. If you don’t care for your mate then I’d assume the relationship wouldn’t last much longer.

DLYDJ: Brooklyn may be the home of Biggie and Jay, but it also has to be the place where you can hear the illest come-ons in the world. What has been the most interesting way a man tried to approach you?

TH: Hmm… I’d have to say that there was a situation where a guy attempted to run me over with his car because I was ignoring him. Sweet, isn’t it? [Laughs] Obviously he didn’t get my number after that. I’ve also had a man offer to buy me things, too… that never hurts I love gifts! I’ve heard the typical words any females gets called when she doesn’t wish to speak with a man. Anything from a b!*&# to unspeakable comments have been thrown my way. Maybe I am one? As I’ve gotten older I don’t get too many rude comments. They usually just respond with, “You couldn’t say hi?” For a guy to gain my attention he has to come with his A-game! He should park his car, walk to me, cordially introduce himself, compliment me, and most of all don’t touch me!!! I flirt all year around but I have to like you to want you to flirt back.

DLYDJ: For the uninitiated — what are some subtle ways guys can notice when a woman is flirting with them?

TH: Me… I’m very old fashioned. I never approach a gentleman. I just make sure that I look desirable and I wait for him to initiate conversation. However for the more forward female of today, a guy should know a woman is feeling him by eye contact, and if she smiles at you for a minimum of five seconds. If she tosses her hair back or twirls it then she’s patiently waiting for you to come and talk to her. There’s a difference between a polite two second smile and a five second smile with a hair toss.

DLYDJ: As an old fashioned lately — did you ever find yourself playing video games as a little girl? If so — when did you lose your video game virginity?

TH: I’ve always been super-feminine from the time I was born, so I was more of a Barbie girl. However, I did play ‘Smackdown‘ and ‘Tekken‘ with my favorite older cousin Anthony. As feminine as I am though, I’m a tough cooking, and I like to kick butt! [Laughs] I play-fight as well.

DLYDJ: As a burgeoning mogul looking to make a way for herself in the industry I have to ask: What sets you apart from your contemporaries?

TH: Well for one thing — my age. There aren’t too many glamor models as young as I am. Secondly, none of these other models, to my knowledge, are doing it for themselves. They’re all being controlled and they don’t have their own identity. I keep everything that I do classy. You’ll never find me bent over in a magazine or even shaking my butt in a music video! In the end, I’m super creative and everything that you see me doing is because I placed my own touch on it. I don’t have a stylist. I don’t have a creative director. No one pays for my shoots. I do it all myself. At the end of the day, I chose the jobs and made the decisions in which way my career goes. Lastly, these women aren’t half as marketable or as business savvy as I am. While only time will tell, we will all see what happens with Tatiana Harvey.

DLYDJ: With marriages in the entertainment industry one would think that those in the real world would not have forgotten the art of dating. What are some ways you can help people from becoming “dating dummies”…?

TH: As far as marriage is concerned… I’m all for it! I say men need to revert back to using tradition to court today’s women, and possibly take an etiquette class. Women need to place their needs alongside a man’s and work together. Only then will the world be a better place. Dating has joined the Digital Age and is common now. Internet dating isn’t going away until no one has a computer anymore… which will never happen. I don’t focus on dating at this moment, personally, but it’s one of the things that I could care less to do.

Creativity can be cultured and fashion sense can be taught, but innovation is a trait one is born with. Such is the case with Chicago’s own Jasmine Waters, the engineer behind FlyStyleLife.com, and lover of all things entertaining. After experiencing successful highs in the film and television industry, Waters created THEflyGIRL personality in hopes of embarking on something new. Fueled by her intense curiosity, powered by faith, a sharp sense of humor, and a sense of style unmatched — this week’s VIRGINIA SLIM — talks about why she left L.A. for Gotham City, how being “too young” didn’t stop her from losing her video game virginity, and who she’d have by her side to survive a zombie attack. Enjoy!

DLYDJ: A lot of folks know who you are in the industry but can you give a little background on how you got your start? Who were some of your influence and what motivated you to get to where you’re at now?

JM: Before anything else I was a writer. When I was nine-years-old I wrote my first screenplay and as I always got older I always found myself loving the entertainment industry. I began to think that I wanted to direct so I went to school from there and ended up getting a job as a PA (production assistant) on ‘ER‘. At the time that was the number one show on television so that was a great look for me. I learned production there, but along the way I realized that I had natural talent, so I moved to Los Angeles and got into development. Eventually it was there where I learned how to package deals. Five years into it I realized that I wasn’t writing anything that was truly was my own. I left L.A. to write and figure it all out. In the meantime I started up FlyStyleLife.com and in the beginning it was really just something to do, but from there it grew and opened up doors for me that, ironically, put me back into working in film and TV. As much as I may b!*@# and moan, as much as I’ve had to fight or go without or deal with bull or the unfairness, long hours, s#!* pay, no pay, and late pay, my motivation is the fact that I truly love this industry — for all its ups and downs — and I’ve never loved anything else. To be able to watch something go from being created to the finished product, built from the ground up, from the depths of your mind, is an amazing feeling. I cannot explain the grateful highs it gives me!

DLYDJ: It’s no secret that you love music and you don’t limit yourself to just one genre. How do those tunes inspire your work and who are you listening to that folks may or may not yet know about?

JM: [Laughs] It’s funny because I’m listening to a lot of stuff that nobody’s heard yet because I’m writing to it for the videos that I’m working on. In itself is a gift and a curse because every new song isn’t a good song [laughs]. I try to listen to things that compliment my mood. Most of the time I’m grinding and I listen to music that drives my hustle. I definitely listen to a lot of Hov — the early stuff and Blueprint III — I love that album. There’s a lot of Jeezy, 2Pac in my iPod, and when I’m feeling frustrated I play my favorite song in the whole wide world — “Juicy” by the Notorious B.I.G. That song speaks to me like no other. I love Mary J. [Blige] — somehow I completely understand her struggle. I’m also really into Ray LaMontagne — he’s brilliant. His music mellows me out and balances me when I get too caught up in the grind!

DLYDJ: Before you were all into the grind and all that I think it’s only right the readers learn something intimate about you. With that said the question must be asked — when did you lose your video game virginity?

JM: [Laughs] My older cousins used to have an Atari that they would never let me play because I was considered “too young”. I remember my dad ended up buying my a Nintendo and I was addicted to ‘Duck Hunt‘ for all of two weeks. I beat the game instantly and after that I didn’t care to play anymore. You can say that I’m not really a video game chick. When I do play video games I prefer to hang with the big boys and test my mettle in ‘Madden‘ or ‘Blitz‘ back in the day when that was cool or any racing game, really? I’m far from a Barbie chick. Other than that I love hanging out with the people I love. I love random days where you have no plans, nothing to do, nowhere to be, and you just bounce around seeing what trouble you can get into. Having fun by myself is ideal sometimes as I always find myself going to the movies. I love seeing movies alone. It’s my time to sit and remember why I love the medium so much.

DLYDJ: The Internet has been here for a minute now but recently it’s become “trendy”. Where do you see things heading in the next few years?

JM: Let’s be clear… ALL entertainment is moving online. It will be your primary source for news, music, movies, and original programming (see: TV). The social networking game is the mainstream. Think about it like this: It’s commonplace to exchange Twitter “follows” with someone. It’s replaced BBM and most definitely the phone number as a reliable means of contacting someone. The “common folk” you speak on are going to have to become fully integrated in order to do such simple tasks like ordering a pizza. Folks can learn more about the web — I’m no expert — by starting with news and social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Mashable, CNN, MSNBC.com, FlyStyleLife.com [laughs], and get a Gmail address if you can’t get your own customized one. Anything less is uncivilized. Honestly though, blogs should not be your primary source for news and I’m speaking as a blogger myself.

DLYDJ: This year’s Oscars made a believer out of a lot of aspiring filmmakers as Kathryn Bigelow and Mo’Nique stuck out taking home some big prizes. Where do you see Hollywood heading to in the future with such changes like that?

JM: What’s funny is that for the first time since I was a child I didn’t watch the Oscars this year. It was mainly because I was traveling on the weekend it aired, but also because I knew how it would all just play out. People must realize that with the Oscars — while I tremendously respect the institution — are just as scripted as the films they celebrate. Hollywood will always reflect the world it caters to. The budgets are smaller now. Much like the music business, the big movie studios are going away, and you’re going to see a town full of people who will be straddle the fence between the studio system and independent artists. The beauty in all that is that the world will now see some amazingly interesting stories like ‘Precious‘ and ‘The Hurt Locker‘. The downside to all of this is that the former studio players are going to also try and go independent and infuse the marketplace with their “studio ideals” — so you’re going to see a lot of confused smaller films like ‘The Blind Side‘ although that contained a great performance. A film like that was still so out of touch and slightly offensive towards the audience though.

DLYDJ: Last question. If you had to survive a zombie attack and could only have one person to fight the good fight with you — who would it be?

JM: That’s easy. My father. I’d trust my life to no one else but him and God. If the world became a ‘Book of Eli‘ type place I would definitely need a soundtrack for me and my pops to kick ass to. The first song would be “Running Back To You” by Commissioned — that was the first song I ever remembered my father and I loving together. The second one would be anything by The Temptations — because he was a Temp stan! Thirdly, I would have to play “You Must Love Me” by Jay-Z. If you’ve ever heard this song then you know there’s really nothing better to play while you’re fighting zombies for your life alongside your father. The fourth song is “Get Low” — I mean why not? [Laughs] Number five would be, “Never Would’ve Made It” by Marvin Sapp — the title says it all.

Clark Kent says: Wanna know more about Jasmine Waters? Find out more about this week’s VIRGINIA SLIM after the jump.

There is only one Saralee Samuels. The always smiling, bright ray of sunshine from Brentwood, New York has a dedication to herself, her love, and her community. Never stopping for negativity, the twenty-something is dedicated to living her life golden, for better or for worst. Energetic and powered by a great laugh, Saralee Samuels, is also walking with purpose. On October 3rd, she’ll be walking with JDRF to help bring awareness to finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. This week’s VIRGINIA SLIM gives her predictions on 2012, casts herself in a soap opera drama, and professes her addiction to Grand Theft Auto IV.

DLYDJ: First question… If yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift — then what would your present be for yourself on this day?

SS: Wow… You know what I’ve heard that saying before. It’s one of my favorite quotes. I have it on my Facebook page. Same concept but a little different. To me it delivers the same message. I consider a real gift to be something that is not materialistic like happiness. If today was a gift then my present would be to make myself happy by chilling out with my sisters. They make me the happiest. Not so much my mom or my aunt… nobody but them. It may sound cliché but in today’s world people don’t appreciate true happiness. With that I always keep a smile on my face for that simple fact. Society plays a big role in “happiness”. Nowadays people feel like it is hard to smile because their bills are overdue or their family life is causing them so much drama. Why can’t people just smile because they are alive and appreciate what they already have. There are so many people in this world that are in worst situations — things that one can’t even imagine. I honestly feel like that a lot of people don’t even know what true happiness is so they try to find it in other things like toys, money, electronics, et cetera — and that doesn’t equate true happiness in the long run.

DLYDJ: If life was a soap opera what show would it be and what your character be like?

SS: Ever seen ‘Passions‘…? It would be exactly like that — not only because it’s my favorite soap opera, but because everyone in the show did whatever they could just to make themselves and the people they love happy. I would play the character that has the best sense of humor that you can’t ignore. She’d be the one that everyone loves to be around because she would make you laugh and keep your spirits high. [Laughs] She’d kind of be like [Steve] Urkel… but not as annoying! I would be the anti-traditional soap opera star because I’m not a drama queen. Drama can be controlled.

DLYDJ: One thing that could not be controlled is the inevitable. With that said — when did you lose your virginity?

SS: The first time that I played a video game I was probably around 1o-years-old. I remember playing ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘. [Laughs] I bought my own console later on when the Xbox 360 first came out and after that I became addicted to ‘Grand Theft Auto IV‘ and ‘Guitar Hero‘ about two years ago. The feeling of Sonic escapes me but I do remember that I loved watching him wait. He would just stand there and tap his foot on the ground, he’d look at the screen, and then his watch, as if to say, “Hurry up!” [Laughs] I don’t think I ever experienced the red ring of death with my Xbox but when ‘The Ballad of Gay Tony‘ came out I believe that that would help to push the concept of legalizing same-sex marriages in America to another level. What’s the point of calling him “Gay Tony” and not having same-sex marriage portrayed in the game? Homosexuals who play the game will definitely be looking out for it!

DLYDJ: Jay-Z said on “Empire State of Mind” that there’s eight million stories but half of them won’t make it. What makes living in New York so tough and yet so loved? Should folks be worried about 2012?

SS: Being a New Yorker all my life I honestly have no idea. It could be that New York is filled with so many different races. I feel like it is the center of the world. As for 2012 — we’re not too far off. They say it’s going to kind of like ‘The Day After Tomorrow‘ — but you know what? I liked the theory that movie proposes. It made perfect sense. Obviously some parts are dramatized to really, really portray their message but it makes sense. After watching the preview of the movie, reading the beliefs of the Mayan people, and I feel like it may be true. For example — so many movies in the past were about new technology and how the future is going to be. The future is now just like those movies from back in the day. Yes, technology is created by man as 2012 is a natural occurrence, but it’s still something that was researched enough to the point where it’s possible.

I feel like every movie has truths behind it. I don’t think that 2012 is the end or the beginning. I really believe that it’s something new. Everything needs change and something new can either turn out to be good or bad. If I had to predict something for 2012 and the future then I would have to say that in the back of my mind I have an idea of what would happen. After that whole Y2K thing and how it flopped, back then it seemed so believable, even my mom stacked up on canned foods and bottled water [laughs]. I don’t know what will happen in the future but I can picture it raining like crazy when that day comes.

Clark Kent says: Wanna know more about Saralee Samuels? More about this compelling character after the jump.

The entertainment industry has seemed to opened up its doors to the masses via the Internet. The homegrown stars of tomorrow are here today and no one is more prepared to accept their role for greatness than Lore’l. The Brooklyn born-and-raised beauty spent her time behind-the-scenes at Sony Record and since the age of 16 has quickly advanced on an upward spiral. Blessed with the gift of song, the Red Cafe protégé honed her skills, and is now ready to present herself to the world. Her first offering, ‘Welcome to the Movie‘, gives a lyrical look at the twenty-something artist, and aims to separate herself from the rising crop of female MCs. This week’s VIRGINIA SLIMS sits down to give us a sneak preview of who she is, explains “The Power P@$$*” move, and plots on how to go from the hottest in the hood to the superstar in the suburbs. Enjoy!

DLYDJ: For those just getting their preview of Lore’L can you let them know a little bit about who you are and how you got your start?

L: I’ve always wanted to sing. At 16 I started interning for Sony in their promotional/marketing department. That was where I started writing raps. I’d battle verse for verse in the Sony offices and sometimes it’d be in front of a lot of the execs [laughs]. I ended up putting singing to the side after I saw all the attention that rap was getting me. One of my influences coming up was Red Cafe. I look up to him and have the pleasure of working directly with him. I always respected him a lot and you can definitely see his grind. Other than that I’d have to say that Lauryn Hill and Jay-Z are my favorite artists of all time. Coming up in the music industry is a lot different then than it is now. For one thing the Internet wasn’t such a big part of the game and now it’s the main focus. Obviously because look what happened to album sales! There’s also an acceptance for female rappers now. The game really wants that!

DLYDJ: You’ve been able to maneuver through the game pretty discreetly and build up a strong support system. What is some advice you can give to the upcoming female MCs who are stepping up and stepping out for the first time?

L: I would tell them that they have to stay focused on accomplishing their goals and realize that it takes a lot of work. People think just because this may be their first time seeing me that I came out of nowhere [laughs] — that’s not true. Everyone has to pay their dues. Work on your craft, too, ladies! Work on it until it’s damn near perfect because there are a lot of talented people out there, but a strong work ethic counts for something!

DLYDJ: How old were you when you lost your video game virginity?

L: [Laughs] My cousins and I used to fight over who had next on Atari! ‘Asteroids‘ and ‘Centipede‘ were what we played. When Nintendo came out you know we had to have ‘Duck Hunt‘ in the house! [Laughs] I loved video games! I was like six-years-old. Really young. Video games definitely allow you to take your mind off of things. If I was to pick up a controller right now, I’d probably be playing for a few hours — no lie. If I had my own video game it would be called ‘Covergirl‘ and it would be a fighting game like ‘Street Fighter‘ or something like that. Growing up I always felt like there weren’t enough female characters to choose from when you’d play those fighting games. So in my game the ladies would have to duke it out to be a ‘Covergirl‘ [laughs]! I’d be a main boss in the game. My finishing move would be called “The Power P@$$*” move [laughs]. The woman would lose their boyfriend and he’d be taken away [laughs]!

DLYDJ: Congratulations is in order. You recently signed a deal with Red Cafe. What do you want folks to take away the first time they listen to your music?

L: I really want people to hear for themselves that I can really spit. Sometimes I feel like the people just don’t listen hard enough. They start comparing me to things and stuff like that, but I’m very lyrical, and it shows in my music. I’ve repped for the ladies. I’m a girlie-girl but I can run around with the fellas too. My tape ‘Welcome to the Movie‘ is hosted by DJ Superstar Jay and Red Cafe. The streets are loving that right now. The video for the song “Tonight’ with Fabolous, Red Cafe, and myself — which is from Fab’s mixtape — can be found on the web. I’m working on two videos for “Go Hard” featuring Red Cafe and “Good Stuff” featuring Ross Fortune. Those are coming real soon. Red’s tape — ‘No Witnesses‘ — will have a few songs featuring your girl too. Check that out! You see that I’m out here working!

DLYDJ: Right now you’re not the only one out here trying to work! [Laughs] On the site I have this part called “Single In The City” and I wrote about recession lovin’. Got any advice to the broke folks out there having trouble finding love?

L: [Laughs] Honestly, all I can say is that no matter who is in a relationship, you have to do stuff that is creative. You can do plenty of things that require little to no money. You definitely have to hustle, be a hustler, and figure out ways to make money so you’re not stuck in that problem too long though. I’ve been on some pretty bad dates myself. I went on a date once that had me bugged. [Laughs] It was a triple date and one of the guys got really drunk and started to stand on his chair and just be overly loud. It wasn’t cute at all and I hated it. I also don’t like it when people dissect the bill. To check it out is cool but to go in item per item is just plain tacky. After all of that — date over. Period.

DLYDJ: Last question: If you’re the hottest in the hood what would it take for you to be the superstar in the suburbs?

L: Shakedown is the team that’s the hottest in the hood. You gotta f*** with us! But to take it to that next level you have to stand out, get a team, and start a movement. If you got it in you then it will work. Stars are born, they’re definitely not made!

In my time here in New York, before all the hype about Internet week, and the Digital Divas — there stood The Internet Celebrities. Dallas and Rafi have always in their own way provided fuel and food for thought while I navigated Gotham City. After they got their kick-start from Kickstarter — The ICs found a cushy spot in Brooklyn to screen their documentary, Stadium Status. Living in Brooklyn, in the County of Kings, as an outsider you notice how they are stripping away the tradition in favor of turning people into dollar signs instead of fans.

I linked up with the Dynamic Duo of Donuts and Dunks after their screening to plot another adventure. This one would require less know-how and more quick thinking as we attempted to steal those rumored secret Illuminati blueprint plans that Bruce Ratner and Jay-Z drew up to entrap the soul of Brooklyn for the next 10 years (you never heard of them?). It’s been awhile since I’ve broken into anything but you have to be on your toes when rollin’ with the surprisingly nimble tandem of Dallas Penn and Rafi Kam. Cas stood as look-out as we used some sidewalk pimpin’ to get pass the security at Ratner and Hova’s posh downtown Brooklyn duplex they share. Going up to the 33rd floor Rafi’s spidey-senses went off and with his cat-like reflexes managed to take out Memphis Bleek with a Cobra Strike to the neck.

Dallas charged through the door like The Thing — tossin’ Billionaire Bruce’s goons around like Sunday night trash. I couldn’t resist joining in the calamity as I RKO’d a few RocNation employees for all the trauma they’re causing the community. The ruckus finally died down and we began our search for those blueprints. “Those masons are a crafty bunch,” I said to my brothers-in-arms. We split up to better our chances of striking gold. Dallas chose to look in Jay-Z corner office, Rafi conspicuously chose the kitchen, and I tried to find Beyonce’s pleasure trove. Twenty minutes go by and I all but gave up on trying to find any Scooby Doo-like entryway.

Meanwhile in Jay-Z’s office, Dallas using the sage wisdom learned from Tron Guy, managed to find something that could be the answer to all of our problems. Before he could get our attention — the lights went out, and all he heard was, “You ready, D?” The lights came on, the music was cued, and there stood Mr. Shawn Corey. Rafi and I sensed trouble and made our way to help DP but our years of Internet Tricks was nothing compared to the evil learned as the President of Def Jam. The door flung shut with Jay slowly charging towards Dallas. Jay tried using his free mason powers to convince Dallas to join the Dark Side. “You can’t knock the hustle, man! You must love me!” he urged. With Jay-Z playing “Sunshine” it made the unofficial-official Brooklyn Baron’s ears bleed. Rafi went straight MacGyver uploading their documentary into the Ratner/Hova Supercomputer.

As each screen began to show The ICs faces, Jay tried to blast and “augh” away the energy brought forth by these champions. With each shot Jay’s control over the door weakened allowing Dallas the chance to escape. Feeling like we were racing against time itself we sped down the stairwell to the first floor only to notice a quick flash of light and a poof of smoke. To add insult to injury a copy of Medicine fell in front of our feet.

Let’s discuss after the jump.

I’m not sold on the idea that folks who work together can easily co-exist as lovers. People have feelings and in business — it’s all about having a machine to create commerce. I had to learn this the hard way when I was in a relationship. In all due respect, my ex, Karen, is responsible for lighting the spark that fuels my fire to be who I am today. I grew to become this person, but I wasn’t me when I was beginning my love affair with her. She was already a college graduate and had done her thing both professionally and personally. Here I was a kid with a dollar, some ambition, but no dream.

As a man it is hard to see your lady going out and do the things that you wish you could do. I wasn’t entirely a slouch though. I was thorough when it came to this writing ish (still am!) and I was seeing that there wasn’t a lot of opportunity in Ohio, but didn’t have the connections to try and make a breakthrough. In my relationship we weren’t bullishin’ either. We were a couple. She was going to be the hotshot Hollywood film director and I was going to write the scripts. Our first project was a movie that I conceptualized and was blessed to have Samantha Broaddus help to shape its scope. Karen was the director.

Over the course of filming I saw a world I never saw before. It appealed to what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and I was simply hooked. On what, you ask? Wanting to work at TV2. Yep… the college television station. To do what, you ask? Learn the ropes. It was the only place on campus that I thought would give you an opportunity to get hand’s on experience. So, I shared my aspiration with the one who I professed my love to, who had already been working with TV2, and if looks could kill — I tell ya! “Why don’t you get your own dreams, Kevin? Why you gotta copycat on mines?” she argued. I tried to explain that I wasn’t doing what she was doing because I wanted to learn how to edit, while she was learning how to direct, but me working in the same place as her was not her cup of tea.

Admittedly I was a soft-hearted guy who was more passive-aggressive than progressive. I didn’t join TV2. I never learned how to work those big studio cameras. Karen and I were trying to be in business for ourselves and love each other at the same time. She was a mover and a shaker who taught me the ropes firsthand on how to “get it how you live”. But I’ll say that hindsight is truly 20/20. If I was me back then I would’ve sacrificed the lofty goals of being “a success” publicly, to have a foundation of success personally. And it’s because of wanting to make sure the public doesn’t interfere with my personal that I’m not entirely sold that lovers can be co-workers.

Ladies, what do you think? Can you be wife and co-CEO? Do you want your man to be husband and boss? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!

Unfortunately, the Poverty Boyz haven’t read too many books to keep up with all that stuff. Instead the guys in Bed-Stuy decided to wax poetic about some of music’s most cherished works of art.

Clark Kent says: The Poverty Boyz proudly present: ‘Verse vs. Verse’ — Will Jay’s ‘Blueprint’ be enough to best Marshall Mathers’ self-titled classic? Find out after the jump.

RULES: ‘Verse vs. Verse’ is a song-by-song assessment of greatness between two classics works of art. If by chance an album has more songs than its competitor, the weakest songs on the tracklist will be cut to make the battle fair. Feature appearances count for the headlining artist — no matter who the guest star is. In the end, after the first verse of said headlining artist is played, the song is voted and tallied for a total to determine a winner. Let’s get it on!

Clark Kent says: For the interest of time, we’ll be giving you the stand-out battles between Marshall and Jay. If you want to follow the play-by-play, make sure you follow Don’t Lose Your Day Job on Twitter!

ROUND 1: “Stan” vs. “Takeover”

While Jay’s classic Nas diss, “Takeover” may have had fans all over going ooh and ahh over Kanye’s production, Hov’s beef pales in comparison to Eminem’s issue with hardcore fans. Even though Black Friday thought that Jay had this locked because of how Jay navigated the beat, created a hype for not only his album, but for his Roc-A-Fella movement in showcasing an up-and-coming talent from Mr. West, and managed to push Nas’s back into a corner. But yours truly and ‘Nuff Sed both agreed that while that may be all well and good, it pales in comparison to Marshall Mathers creating a new hip-hop lexicon. On the album, “Stan” was dark, brooding, and full of clever Eminem witticisms that made anyone who’s a star acknowledge the “stan” as a part of reality. Even for the non-stars, “Stan” reflected the most normal of human needs — privacy. While we may have the luxury of being nobodies in the grand scheme of things, “Stan” gave the regular folks something to call invaders, too.

ROUND 2: “You Don’t Know” vs. “I’m Back”

There’s something about that Bobby Byrd sample, but Just Blaze put his foot in it with this one. ‘The Blueprint‘ was like that — a perfect blend of street soul that resonated with anyone who understood what it takes to put any plan in motion. Black Friday alluded to the fact that whenever this song was played in New York folks would go crazy. Even Em would have to tip his hat to that.

WINNER: “You Don’t Know” [See below] –

Jay’s braggadocios rhymes were up against Em’s homicidal tales of terror. ‘Nuff Sed thought that “Kim” had all the makings of a great rap song. The Bass Brothers provide Marshall with the perfect backdrop for the Dirty Dozen front-man to go straight horrorcore. While Black thought that Jay’s “All I Need” was better in ways opposite of Em’s “Kim,” he concluded that it’s dope because it passed the car test. With me as the tie-breaker, I went with “Kim” over Jay’s witty track because Em gave the listener an audio movie.

WINNER: “Kim” [See below] –

With DJ competitions playing a large role in DJ culture, the inclusion of a DJ vs. DJ competitive mode in DJ Hero was a natural fit.

Clark Kent says: I will be posting up the reviews that are featured in GIANT Magazine. Activision’s DJ Hero is up next. How did it fare? Read after the jump.

Do you love hip-hop but aren’t talented enough to be a part of the culture? Well, Activision – the publisher responsible for Guitar Hero – has heard your cries and strives to unlock your inner X-ecutioner with its latest music-based game, DJ Hero. An improved take on Konami’s Beatmania, DJ Hero ups the value of a music-based game by including an original set list, retooling the controls and updating the peripherals with a unique look and feel.

Emulating Guitar Hero’s intuitive design, the game gives players a chance to play spin doctor on a fully customizable turntable. Three colored surface buttons laid into the vinyl make up the body of the controller, with a side extension containing a cross-fader, a euphoria button that acts as “star power” and a small panel-covered inset that holds the traditional directional-pad controls.

Overall, DJ Hero is inherently fun. On the lowest level of difficulty, it allows the player to chop the beats, while harder settings display arrows to indicate specific scratch directions. Want to show off how much of a DJ you are? DJ Hero has a free-flowing sample section, where blending, scratching and mixing are all interwoven elements. Certain sections can even be distorted and manipulated via the effects dial, proving that DJ Hero is as much rock as it is rap.

With a diverse lineup of over 100 songs from artists such as Jay-Z and Eminem and mash-ups from paired artists such as The Gorillaz and Marvin Gaye, you’ll be able to capture the feel of a true mixmaster playing against turntable legends like DJ Shadow, the late DJ AM and Grandmaster Flash. And though you probably won’t win any DJ battles just by playing DJ Hero, you’ll have a new appreciation for the art and science behind the sounds the next time you’re at a club.

Clark Kent says: DJ Hero will be in stores on October 27th. They threw a pretty dope party last Thursday. Click here to see what you missed out on!
