Rumored to have existed for several months under the moniker Title Fight, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is currently under development at SuperBot Entertainment (with the help of Sony‘s super-powered group at Santa Monica Studio). And after getting extensive hands-on time with the game, it’s difficult not to get excited about the possibility that, while incredibly and undeniably similar to Smash Bros., it could turn out to be a very strong game in its own right.

But will it be enough to put the butts in the seats? Check out this gallery below:

The teaser trailer shows Kratos bound in blood, being taunted by various figures of mythology. A narrator mentions his life before being bound to vengeance, before challenging the Gods. Exactly how a prequel, likely featuring Kratos obeying Ares’ will and destroying his enemies, could compare to the beyond belief battles of the main trilogy is left unexplained. Judging from all the blood in the trailer though, Sony isn’t planning to displease fans of the franchise. There’s always someone or something for Kratos to kill.

Kratos returns to the PSP in the upcoming release from Ready at Dawn, God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

Clark Kent says: It’s always a little bit sad when something you love finally comes to an end. In this case, Kratos is out to do one thing — kill Zeus — but was his last hooray the stuff of legends? Find out more after the jump.

GOOD: ‘God of War’ was nothing short of perfect and after the ending to the sequel, audiences were salivating at the hint of a third and final tale. Again blending combat, platforming, and puzzles, Kratos’ chaotic ride is story-driven wrapped in 1080i goodness. There’s literally something new around every corner. The level design feels like you’re climbing up Mount Olympus alongside Kratos. Throughout his journey the sights become more dazzling, the enemies (both new and old) come out the wood-work, and you get some new weapons to play with. Sony Santa Monica has done little to change the game, but it adds a unique flair to pay homage to the first two stories.

BAD: With weapons like the Bow of Apollo, Claws of Hades, and Nemesis Whip — to name a few — it would have been nice to have more weapons that were truly unique like the Nemean Cestus pick-up. The inclusion of the Titans as a “friend/foe” type factor in ‘God of War 3′ — it’s hard not to notice how they make everything else seem less grandiose in scale. You begin the game fighting on Gaia’s back as she ascends Mount Olympus and once you get indoors, solving a puzzle or fighting bosses only twice Kratos’ size, only seems normal when you compare it to what’s going on outside. One can only imagine how the game may have been if there were a few more Titan levels/fights over the course of the game.

UGLY: ‘God of War’ had the best story in the history of the game’s franchise and the sequel had everything you wanted with combat and button-mashing. When it comes down to Kratos’ final bow — it ends as the most consistent and varied of the three games. Not as focused as the first, nor as moment-packed as the sequel, but you can find very little to complain about in the end. Rip Torn stands out vocally as the god of blacksmiths — Hephaestus. His voice comes deep from his chest giving his words a glimpse of sadness that carries weight. On the few occasions you meet him in the game you get a hint at how a snip here and a cut there would have improved the game. T.C. Carson delivers the chaos as Kratos and Natalie Lander (Pandora) gives a surprisingly strong performance. Her voice adds greatly to the game.

Fans of the series have been waiting in anticipation for more God Of War III footage. Well fans, you’re in luck, because the latest episode of GameTrailersTV features the footage everyone has been waiting for, filled with sheer epic Kratos madness.

Last night’s episode of GTTV was brimming with God Of War III in-game footage as well as a first glimpse at some of the titans Kratos will face, including Cronos.

Sony Santa Monica’s head of technology Christer Ericson has said God of War III won’t require an HDD install.

That’s despite news that the game will fill up to over 35Gb on a Blu-ray, with just over 40Gb for the European version thanks to localisation.

He tweeted:

God of War 3 does NOT do a HD install. The 5MB listed on box back is for save game only.

GoW III is due out on March 16 in the US, with an as yet unconfirmed date of March 19 in the UK.

According to Tim Moss, Sony Santa Monica director of technology, God of War 3 will be making the most the PS3′s Blu-ray storage capacity, with the European version of the game weighing in at over 40GB.

“GOW3 35Gb of goodness. Thank heavens for Dual Layer Blu-Rays,” tweeted Moss.

“Euro version is bigger, in low 40′s,” he added, pointing to the nine or more languages included on the disc.

Bigger isn’t always better, but in this case we certainly hope so. God of War 3 is scheduled for release in March, only on PS3.

Clark Kent says: While ‘Dante’s Inferno’ may not be a game you want to play while eating some food, it’s obvious that Visceral Games have taken their love for ‘God Of War’ a step further in this well-made game.

GOOD: Visceral Games lifts Dante Alighieri’s epic poem and displays some incredible imagination in interpreting its message. They literally utilize everything available in ‘The Divine Comedy’s’ cannon to it greatest limit. Sure the gameplay mechanics are straight-up-and-down ‘God Of War’, some folks may say that that gives the game an uninspired feel. But there is a different experience hidden under the layers of killer babies and shock value. ‘Dante’s Inferno’ provides plenty of combat to satisfy those blood-thirsty lushes out there, while the game’s central plot adds fuel to the fire. Visually the folks behind the title can hold tight to their “visceral” mantra, as the level of detail is apparent from the cinematic-esque CGI scenes to the graphic nature of Dante’s adversaries. If nothing else rocks your boat, then the sheer creativity behind the level of shock should be applauded because it keeps you in tone with the purpose of the game.

BAD: Being that this is a ‘God Of War’ inspired game, ‘Dante’s Inferno’ makes the mistake of over-using quick-time events. There are absolutely too many timed button events and it gets rather annoying. The game clutters itself with that and instead of adding intensity to the story or gameplay, it just feels over done. Failing to maintain the game’s purpose as you dig deeper into it, ‘Dante’ devolves into monotony. The most memorable foes are presented within the first couple of hours and there are some noticeable continuity issues which make this epic and explosive game repetitive. The puzzles represent more to slow your progress rather than to test your gaming skills. And while the CGI is warmly received, the in-game camera creates difficulty in seeing what you need to see (see: treasures) or it highlights an area that’s unimportant.

UGLY: Yes, ‘Dante’s Inferno’ mimics ‘God Of War’. The carnage (instead of chaos) is brutally violent. Quick-time events make taking down hell’s angels horrifically elaborate and detailed. While earning your rank through every soul you take, the holy and unholy meters add to the enjoyment of learning new attacks. Combat does lag in parts. Dante will stubbornly swing at his enemies and you must see it all through the end. The auto-aim for your projectile attack is useless — one can’t even hit a specific enemy in a crowded room. Visceral Games manage to give you an appetizer in the guise of a full meal. In the end ‘Dante’s Inferno’ loses its frenetic pacing and shock value within the first few hours leaving the rest of your adventure repetitive and uninspired.

Clark Kent says: In other words… Buy It. I say that only because as far as I know there’s no more ‘God Of War’, so if the guys at Visceral don’t make a sequel, then this will be a collector’s item at the least. Enjoy the trailer below:

IGN’s got up a making-of video for God of War III’s Leviathan.

Kratos’s last stand will be released on March 16 in the US, with a March 25 release in Japan.

The title is predicted to be out in the UK on March 19, although that is only a projected date so far according to SCEE.

A new trailer will debut this Thursday.
