For some reason, we haven’t heard much about the upcoming Dinner for Shmucks starring Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, so this bit of news comes as a pleasant surprise.

The film is a remake of the French comedy Le dîner de cons (which has a not-so-nice title when translated), and will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents). The last time Schmucks was reported was in 2007, with Sacha Baron Cohen attached to star. Obviously, those plans fell through, but honestly it’s for the better.

Finally, we’re going to get a chance to see Rudd and Carrell together again after The 40 Year Old Virgin and Anchorman. The cast also features Zach Galifianakis and Ron Livingston.

NBC is developing a semi-scripted comedy from sitcom veteran Larry Charles (Seinfeld, Mad About You) and McG’s Wonderland production company, reports Variety.

The untitled project centers on a group of sci-fi fanboys in a small town who shoot their own version of a canceled TV show. Charles is on-board to write, executive produce and direct the project.

Warner Bros. TV, where Wonderland Sound and Vision is based, is the studio on the sitcom.

Charles directed Sasha Baron Cohen’s Borat and Bruno. He is also the regular helmer on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.
