The latest trailer for the launch of Mortal Kombat PS Vita starts with a lone Katana dressed and ready for some action. The PS Vita version of the famous fighting game will release in early May.

The guys at Gizmo Slip sacrificed a PS Vita to the pavement just to how it would hold up. If you’ve ever held a PS Vita or seen it in person, you know that it does not look like it can take much damage. Between the touchscreen, the rear touchpad, and its dual analog sticks, there are just so many pieces that could break.

Move’s Richard Marks told CVG earlier this month that he believed Move would best mouse and keyboard as an RTS controller, speaking in London, and predicted Move will impact future RTS design.

“You really feel like this general or god-like person that can manipulate huge armies,” he said.

“I think that with Move would feel way better than a mouse for that, for example, and doing things that require some 3D information is much better with Move.”

“The RTS genre has been designed not to require any 3D information, but having that extra dimension and all the angle data that we have too is also very interesting.”

Clark Kent says: ‘inFamous’ was the game that I thought really kicked the PS3 into gear. The game was fun, at times repetitive, yet all-around it was money well spent. Days after announcing he’d managed to hack Sony’s PlayStation 3 console to run his own software George Hotz has released the exploit online.

Hotz, who is best known for cracking Apple’s iPhone, said in a blog posting that he had decided to release the exploit to see what others could do with it and because he wanted to move on to other work.

“Hopefully, this will ignite the PS3 scene, and you will organize and figure out how to use this to do practical things, like the iPhone when jailbreaks were first released,” he wrote. “I have a life to get back to and can’t keep working on this all day and night.”

On Friday Hotz said he had managed to hack the PlayStation 3 after five weeks of work with “very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.”

PlayStation 3 consoles typically only run software that has been digitally signed by Sony. It’s part of the complex digital rights management system designed to thwart software piracy but the hack represents a first crack in that digital protection.

With the release of the exploit online many programmers will likely start to examine the PlayStation 3 for ways to get deeper into the system. For some the prime goal will be to crack the encryption system that ensures illegally copied games cannot be played on the console while others will likely be motivated by the technical challenge of running their own software on the powerful PlayStation 3 platform.

“The PS3 is hacked, it’s your job to figure out something useful to do with it,” wrote Hotz in a zip file included with the exploit.

The exploit Hotz has found works with the PlayStation 3′s OtherOS feature that allows a second operating system to be installed on the machine. This feature was discontinued on newer model machines, the so-called “PS3 Slim” consoles.

Sony is also examining the code. Its Tokyo-based gaming unit, Sony Computer Entertainment, said it is looking into the claims made by Hotz and declined to comment until it has finished its investigation.

If the software is improved upon then Sony could be pushed to release a firmware update that plugs the hole or holes through which Hotz attacked the system.

That’s what happened when Hotz cracked the iPhone. Apple began a virtual cat-and-mouse with developers and would rush out system updates as soon as new versions of the iPhone Jailbreak software were published.

God of War III is looking dope, from the looks of these screens, the bosses look huge, as one would expect from a God Of War game and the graphics look tight. Can’t wait to play this game.

It’s not often that buzz builds behind a news embargo, but judging by comments on the Blog, it seems a lot of you have been looking forward to hearing more about God of War III today. Mark it in your calendars. The God gouging God of War 3 has finally been slapped with a release date. A listing from a U.S retailer has dated it for March 16th.

The listing – courtesy of GameStop comes in the same week UK stores Game and Gamestation dated the game for March 20th on these shores, the same week its apparently heading to the U.S.

The long awaited PS3 exclusive was always touted for a March 2010 release but fans of the franchise will at least be pleased to know that it doesn’t look like getting delayed like many of last years titles.

Those hoping to pick up the God Of War Ultimate Edition will have to shell out £110.

According to CVG the God of War trio will be a game exclusive. As well as HD-remastered editions of God of War and God of War 2 it comes with an artbook, soundtrack, other extras and comes in a Pandora’s Box, box.

Evidently the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine has reached subscribers, and GameThirst reports it has a number of juicy rumors in its pages. Top among them: that Sony is planning to announce three huge sequels at E3 later this year, including Resistance 3, Killzone 3, and InFamous 2.

None of them, mind you, is particularly surprising. The existence of Resistance 3 was already kind of leaked by a fake billboard on a movie set, so that one was expected. Similarly, Killzone 3 has also been previously rumored to be in the works (a rumor that also first appeared in OPM, in fact), and there have already been reports that Sucker Punch has been casting for InFamous 2 as well. This latest wave of rumors in OPM, though, says none of them will be available until 2011.

In other rumor news, the issue also states that they’re “90 percent sure” God of War 3 will launch with a custom God of War-designed limited edition PlayStation 3. And lastly, there’s an “85 percent chance” (we’re sure these figures are very scientific) that Metal Gear: Rising — the Raiden-starring spin-off announced at E3 last year — will be out by Christmas.

Naughty Dog would like to keep working on the PlayStation 3 for “5 of 6 more years,” says co-president, Evan Wells.

Speaking in an interview with G4TV, Wells said the Uncharted developer is “not itching for new hardware” and believes it can squeeze even more magic out of Sony’s Cell processor.

“We’re getting comfortable [with the PS3],” he said. “We’re not itching for new hardware. I would love to keep working on the PlayStation [3] for 5 or 6 more years… I think there’s still a lot to get out of it.”

The co-boss added: “we made a very big advancement between the first [Uncharted] and the second game, we’re really tapping into the Cell processor, but there’s more there.”

“We’re not really feeling limited by the hardware, it’s more about the hours of the day and how quickly we want to get the next game out.”

Wells explained that though Uncharted 2 kept Cell busy 100% of the time, now the developer is looking to optimize its technology in order to get even more from the PS3 hardware.

“It really feels that sometimes it’s this bottomless pit of processing power, you find the right kind of job for it and it can just churn through those things so fast, which really helps with a lot of our rendering and post-processing effects,” he said.

Sony’s next gaming console may not include the much-heralded Cell architecture.

A report from Japanese outlet Impress Watch states Sony is considering several options for the design of the ‘PlayStation 4,’ including scrapping the Cell design entirely and moving towards a traditional PC multi-core processor.

Tech writer Hiroshige Goto says Sony is also looking at a new, modified version of the Cell processor, and Intel’s Larrabee chipset as possible candidates. He also says that it seems unlikely we’ll see a release of the ‘PS4′ until 2012 at the earliest, as it usually takes two years for a console to go from concept into full production.

While the PlayStation 3′s Cell processor has its advantages over the competition, many third-party developers still seem to be having difficulty programming for it, as recently seen with SEGA’s Bayonetta port. Whatever they choose to do, though, it’s refreshing to see Sony focusing on being more developer-friendly in the future.
