The idea of saluting all of you #InstaGamers came courtesy of Lenny from the cannabis culture site, Hail Mary Jane. If you have been living in a cave for the past week, you might have heard that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg bought the popular iPhone photo-sharing app for a cool billion dollars. With that in mind, we here at Don’t Lose Your Day Job wanted to salute all of the dope #InstaGamers out there in InstaGram-land for sharing their love of videogames with us!

Sony’s officially lifted the veil off Soul Sacrifice, giving the game its first official trailer following a Famitsu blowout yesterday. The game, being made as a collaboration between Studio Japan, Marvelous and ex-Capcom dev boss Keiji Inafune, is set to arrive this winter in Japan for Vita.

Scruffy McGhee says: Test your might in Mortal Kombat, now available for PlayStation Vita.

Highlights include slicing limbs with the touchscreen, a Fruit Ninja-inspired mini-game and wiping blood from the screen to gain a clear view of the action.

The Vita port includes all content from the game’s console release last year, such as PlayStation exclusive character Kratos from God of War and add-on characters Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and Freddy Krueger.

It also contains all of the classic character skins and Vita-specific content, such as touch-screen fatalities and 150 new challenge tower missions.

Crysis 3‘s naturalization of New York City’s concrete jungle takes full shape in the first gameplay trailer, released this morning by EA. That compound bow makes plenty of appearances, but don’t think Crytek has forgotten about all those other toys Crysis fans have come to expect.

Scruffy McGhee says: Most people thought that this was God of War 4, but that’s not coming until top of the next year.

The teaser trailer shows Kratos bound in blood, being taunted by various figures of mythology. A narrator mentions his life before being bound to vengeance, before challenging the Gods. Exactly how a prequel, likely featuring Kratos obeying Ares’ will and destroying his enemies, could compare to the beyond belief battles of the main trilogy is left unexplained. Judging from all the blood in the trailer though, Sony isn’t planning to displease fans of the franchise. There’s always someone or something for Kratos to kill.

Scruffy McGhee says: Could this be just the “FLAWLESS VICTORY” the Mortal Kombat camp needs to help jumpstart those PS Vita sales?

The latest trailer for the launch of Mortal Kombat PS Vita starts with a lone Katana dressed and ready for some action. The PS Vita version of the famous fighting game will release in early May.

Tokyo Jungle posits a post-apocalyptic world in which humans have vanished, and animals must learn to survive in a decaying urban environment. The animals in Tokyo Jungle can equip items of clothing, and acquire bonuses for complete sets.

Scruffy McGhee says: LBP’s next step at providing family entertainment sure sounds like a winner, but do you think it has what it takes to knock Mario out of the race?

The team over at Sony has decided to put Sackboy behind the wheels in their new kart racer LittleBigPlanet Karting. The United Front Games studio, who developed ModNation Racers, will lead the project.

With her buzz quickly growing and a single, “So Sick,” currently on iTunes — this week’s VIRGINIA SLIM is one to keep an eye and ear out for. The mesmerizing Stephanie Martinez talks about her first singing performance, how she was mistaken for Kim Kardashian, and reminiscences on how she lost her video game virginity to a brute named Donkey Kong. Enjoy!

DLYDJ: What was your first singing performance like? Can you explain the experience and the trials and tribulations that came with trying to create your own career?

SM: Outside of talent shows my first real performance was strangely enough one where I had to open up for Jeremih. That night was almost surreal and magical! My immediate family and friends were able to attend and support the event. My label went out of their way to make sure that I did not look like a new artist. Most importantly — the response from the crowd at the venue was full of love and it was a pleasure to behold! The road in getting to that point left me aware that it was a grounded learning experience. Along the journey I met various people who gave me the tried-and-true way of doing a song and dance about what they could do for me and my career. But despite all of whom may have just been all talk to those who didn’t believe — everything that I had to go through I still respect the adventure because it made me want to work harder with every step.

DLYDJ: Share your thoughts on today’s music industry. Do you feel that the independent artist has gained the upper-hand against the machine thanks to the Internet?

SM: The Internet has opened up alternative ways for artists like myself to connect to potential fans globally, and in that sense, I believe that we’ve gained the upper-hand. Before you had recording artists that had to solely depend on major labels for burn. Available avenues like social networking, Facebook, Twitter, and the increased communication cell phones provide, we’re able to build relationships and grow our local fan base. Don’t get me wrong — we still have to aspire to have the backing of a major — but at least now we’re able to sell records, connect with our fans, and tour the country until we get that huge deal!

DLYDJ: While out on the road touring or performing — can you share any funny stories about your travels?

SM: [Laughs] There was this time when we went down to Atlanta to show love to DJ Infamous for his fifth year anniversary for being on V103. It was a great party by the way! As I was leaving I noticed people just yelling out for Kim Kardashian and I was thinking, “Wow, Kim was at this party the whole time and I didn’t even see her! I’m a huge fan of hers!” My label mate who was also with me says, “Yo, they yellin’ at YOU!” Now I think Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman but I don’t think we look alike! I guess apparently they did! From that point on they wouldn’t let me leave. That was the best case of mistaken identity ever! Deep down I really think they knew that I wasn’t Kim Kardashian — but again — I don’t mind!

DLYDJ: Through all these identity issues has anyone ever mistaken you for a gamer by any chance? If so, when did you lose your video game virginity?

SM: [Laughs] Actually I lost my video game virginity at quite the young age. I fell in love with a plumber named Mario, a brute of a monkey named Donkey Kong, and together I got a chance to drive their whips in ‘Super Mario Karts‘. Eventually I left Nintendo for Sony and got into PlayStation when it first came out and I started a relationship with ‘Crash Bandicoot‘ and ‘Star Fox‘. I’m an adventurous woman [laughs]. Now, I’m all into ‘Call of Duty‘ and play it from time to time. So if anyone were to mistake me for a gamer they’d be right in their assessment because it’s definitely not a mistake — I love video games.

DLYDJ: This BP oil situation is a heart-breaking story on so many levels. Can you share your thoughts about the scenario and give your take on how you would rectify this serious issue?

SM: This story hits close to home because of the damage that it has caused everyone on both sides of the fence. One of the things that I would hope the folks in charge would try to change is our reliance on the oil companies to manage the response for these major spills. Changing our energy policies are a must! We know that folks make tons of money when they’ve obtained oil, but the drilling in parts of the world, both above and below sea level, makes a spill a realistic inevitability. This is one of the biggest issues that if I had the ability to change — I would. The governments of the world should be the first to immediately determine the level of the spill and act swiftly if this situation is to arise again and they should just order the abolishing of the oil companies in favor of greener energy. I don’t know if the American public has the patience to let the people responsible for what’s going on come up with a plan of action. I’ve come to realize that there are some things that the government just doesn’t want to solve — such as immigration. Is there a solution? I’m pretty sure there is but it’s one of those things that is used to pacify the people. I think that solving the problem of another potential oil spill is one of those hot ticket issues that can’t wait till a November ballot box.

DLYDJ: Celebreality has really made itself known over the past few years on television and the Internet. Can you share your thoughts on “Generation Me” and where do you see your music fitting into this real-time industry we’re in?

SM: I love music and I love this question. It seems like there is a reality show being shot on every corner, honestly. Of course that gives me more opportunities to have my music placed to appear online and on TV, but the only thing about those reality shows, are that they’re usually showcasing something negative. Everybody these days really love drama — but where’s the balance?

DLYDJ: Speaking of the Internet — with it being able to grant access to you and yours 24/7 to millions of people — what sets you apart from your contemporaries?

SM: Right now I’m more similar to my fan base. I’m still a student in school, I’m young, so I pop up at the same type of events that my fans would attend. The ones that are in South Florida, at least [laughs]. Not only do they connect with me online, but they are liable to run into me anywhere on the street! I’m really like the girl next door, but I just so happen to be an entertainer. You’re not going to find my contemporaries, even on the independent level, so much in the mix like I am and I don’t knock those who don’t — this just so happens to be the thing that’s working for me.
