Clark Kent says: If you haven’t seen Carvey’s first attempt at sketch comedy, then you’ve dodged a pretty crazy bullet, I tell ya. More after the jump.

VIA GS:

Now you might be asking, “why do we care if an old, washed up SNL actor who brutally murdered the concept of comedy with The Master Of Disguise gets his own TV show?” And the answer is the amazing wonder that was The Dana Carvey Show, the sketch show that ran on ABC for six episodes in 1996 before becoming easily one of the most cancelled sketch shows of all time.

If you never saw it, picture one of the funniest, and somewhat disturbing, comedy shows that somehow managed to sneak into a primetime network slot. For example, the first episode featured Carvey as a multi-breasted Bill Clinton who actually suckled puppies and kittens onscreen, which would be perfectly acceptable in our post South Park world, but apparently disturbed the family demographic of the show before it, the Tim Allen suckfest Home Improvement. It also featured insanely good writers and actors, including Louis C.K., Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, Jon Glaser, Dino Stamatopolous, Robert Smigel and even a pre-Being John Malkovitch Charlie Kaufman.

Apparently, it’ll be filmed on location and have a “strong online component.” It also won’t be as weird as the earlier as show, as Carvey said, “The dryness or subversive elements will be a bit more subtle and less alternative.” He added that they plan to “play with our friends” during the show, which might mean any of the above comedians might be involved. (Although, we’re betting Carrell and Colbert are way too busy these days.)

Clark Kent says: But don’t be surprised if Carrell and Colbert don’t appear for an episode or two.

Clark Kent says: Definitely a surprise to see these ’40-Year Old Virgin’ cohorts back together again!

VIA SF:

The film is a remake of the French comedy Le dîner de cons (which has a not-so-nice title when translated), and will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents). The last time Schmucks was reported was in 2007, with Sacha Baron Cohen attached to star. Obviously, those plans fell through, but honestly it’s for the better.

Finally, we’re going to get a chance to see Rudd and Carrell together again after The 40 Year Old Virgin and Anchorman. The cast also features Zach Galifianakis and Ron Livingston.

The couples comedy Date Night, starring Fey and Carell as a married couple looking to spice up their romance, was bound to be scrutinized.

Clark Kent says: Would you take a date to see this movie? Check out the trailer after the jump!

VIA C:

So now that the first trailer has arrived (via Apple), reactions have been mixed. But there’s hope for this film, if for no other reason than the fact that Fey and Carell are some of the most talented comedians working right now (although I’m still holding out for Fey to start writing some more movies of her own).

Date Night was directed by Shawn Levy (of Night at The Museum fame) and written by Josh Klausner, who only has a couple of credits as a writer (mainly for Shrek films). But Klausner has also worked with the Farrelly brothers, so he must know his way around a joke, right? There’s a strong supporting cast of funny folks like James Franco, Mila Kunis, Jason Segel, and Kristen Wiig.

Clark Kent says: Neither Carrell or Fey have lost their comedy magic, but while this film stands unrated, it could end up being a 40-Year-Old Virgin sleeper hit, right? You be the judge. Peep the trailer below!
