Three months ago (from the time of this writing), The Amazing Spider-Man developer, Beenox, teased a new gameplay mechanic, “Web Rush,” which would help ensure that the upcoming webslinger game wasn’t just another hum-drum movie tie-in (we’re looking at you Battleship).

While Beenox had teased the Web Rush mechanic before as providing players with “real-time navigational and combat choices,” the latest trailer (which you can check out below) presents a number of intriguing ways that the mechanic could be implemented – especially in the massive New York City open-world.

Whether its walking into the room with Lara Croft; busting your guns in the street with Samus; or even play fighting with Tifa — it’s no secret that every badass gamer needs an even radder gaming girl. With that in mind, Don’t Lose Your Day Job proudly present VIRGINIA SLIMS—showcasing the best digital video game vixens on this side of the InternetS!

From week to week, we’ll profile the sexiest women that you need to know about. Allow us to introduce you to first-time interviewee Kenya Ture! A graduate from the University of Akron, the 20-something-year-old relocated from the Midwest to New York in hopes of cultivating her “Empire State of Mind”. In this week’s installment of VIRGINIA SLIMS, Ms. Ture shares her origin story with us, professes her attraction to two of Roc Nation‘s finest, and let us in on how she would like to lose her video game virginity.

Don’t Lose Your Day Job: Name two people you are attracted to in the industry you’re in and why? What would you like people to be attracted to when it comes to you?

Kenya Ture: Jay-Z and Rihanna—no doubt. I love their story. I appreciate their climb to the top. I believe they produce sound material while maintaining an exciting image. Overall, I feed off of their drive! I want success just how they want it. Personally, I would like people to be attracted to my determination and resilience. In my book—work ethic is everything. I want people to find themselves going after what it is they really wish to achieve in life after hearing my story. Whatever held them back in the past—my story will liberate them,

DLYDJ: PS3 or Xbox 360?

KT: Neither.

DLYDJ: Uh, okay… No Nintendo? Wii? Sega? Nothing?!

KT: I’m an only child. I didn’t grow up playing [video] games. I grew up listening to music and reading magazines.

DLYDJ: Talk about your journey which took you from small town Ohio to the bright lights of New York City?  

KT: It all began at the age of thirteen. I visited NYC one summer and absolutely fell in love. There was something intangible that connected me to this city that I simply could never shake. I decided when I came of age that I would permanently relocate here. My family requested that I completed my Bachelor’s in Communication before taking off —and I honored their request. In May of 2010, the University of Akron handed me my degree. That following month I was on a plane to New York City with two bags!

When I got here I was baffled at the length of time it took me to land a job. There were media shouts coming from the Left [Wing] and Right [wing] screaming, “RECESSION!” during 2010. I didn’t think that someone fresh out of college; age 22; armed with a drive that must be reckoned with—would actually find a dilemma with employment. It hurt. Meanwhile, my family remained supportive, and I remained persistent.

DLYDJ: Speaking of persistent… Since you still have your video game virginity in tact—have you ever thought about how you would like to lose it? 

KT: [Laughs] Oh, wow! Actually, I have… I would like one of my guy friends to teach me how to play. I’m very interested in becoming an unofficial sniper, so I want a shooting game that gets my skills up [laughs]! I just hope my first time experiencing that is something thrilling; something that gets my adrenaline up!

DLYDJ: If you could then have cyber sex with one video game character—who would it be and why?

KT: Although, I am not familiar with video game characters, I would most definitely choose whichever character that was the boss!

DLYDJ: There’s still a small group of folks who don’t believe that gorgeous girls (or gamers) exist in the Midwest, but since you’ve proven them wrong—what are five things you want everyone to know about Kenya Ture that no one else may know?

KT: 1) I am a devout Christian. I get on my knees every morning and every night before bed and humble myself before God. People know I love God, but I don’t think they know just how much I reverence him. 2) I have a deep passion for excellence and consistent disciplined behavior—while also loving to party. I somehow make it work. 3) My grandmother is my bestie. 4) My mother is Black and my father is Italian. 5) I am going to become 100% of who I desire to be…or die trying!

DLYDJ: If you had the opportunity to rule the video gaming world, you would…?

KT: I would want to dominate any other force. I would need dominion and power over all. I would also need to be a ninja. Truthfully, I’m competitive by nature, and though my experience in the gaming industry is little—my mission is always to win!

DLYDJ: Last question, Kenya… The best way for guys to convince their girl to start gaming would be to…?

KT: The best way is to invite her to participate with you! She’ll feel welcomed instead of disregarded. Everyone knows when a man is playing the game women don’t matter. Introducing her to your favorite game and getting her involved will be totally awesome. I like heavy artillery!

Activision’s just formally announced NASCAR The Game 2011, to developed by UK-based developer Eutechnyx.

The game will release for PS3, 360 and Wii.The news confirms what’s been known since last week, and will be the first game in the sport since EA Sports had the IP. “It was crucial to take a fresh look at what makes the sport so popular,” said Eutechnyx EVP, Ed Martin.“We’re working very closely with NASCAR, the drivers, the teams, the tracks and the sponsors to get all the minute details right, and give this game the polish and push the fans deserve.”

“The NASCAR videogame fanbase has been underserved for a long time and we’re bringing them something very special,” added David Oxford of Activision. The game will allow you to either play as yourself or any real-life driver in NASCAR, while 22 tracks will also be in the game. The cars, meanwhile, and the damage they pick up will be “meticulously detailed” with multi-car wrecks “the most extreme ever experienced in an officially licensed racing game.”

NASCAR 2011 also features online multiplayer, where 16 players will compete. You’ll also be able to “earn NASCAR experience points” in online and offline races “which help unlock rewards such as decal packs or special car designs, as well as career sponsorships and special races throughout career mode.”

Clark Kent says: You can expect the first trailer to air here in the States this Sunday. The game will be out in February.

Nintendo has released a screenshot of the new Wii Remote Plus.

Outed by GameStop over the weekend through a listing for FlingSmash, Nintendo confirmed the peripheral was real to Eurogamer, but failed to provide any more detail.

Yesterday (Sept. 29th) at it’s press conference in Japan, Nintendo said it will be released “for the convenience of the users” and that it “integrates Wii Remote and Wii MotionPlus”.

“We will announce the details of this controller on our web sites and through other media at some later date,” read the statement.

Electronic Arts simultaneously broke and warmed the hearts of basketball-loving gamers by officially announcing today that the upcoming Wii reboot NBA Jam will, unsurprisingly, be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this holiday.

The bad news is that NBA Elite 11, which was supposed to be released simultaneously with NBA Jam on October 5, has been delayed. Classic giveth and taketh.

Thanks to the ESRB, NBA Jam going multi-platform is far from a surprise. One would have hoped that EA would stick by its guns and give the Wii a truly great exclusive title, the sheer economics of such a move, especially with a franchise as beloved and popular as NBA Jam, are impossible to deny.

As for the NBA Elite 11 delay, EA Sports explained the decision on its official blog, saying, “This year, we set extremely ambitious goals for our new franchise, NBA Elite 11. We are creating a game that will introduce several breakthrough features that have been missing from the basketball genre. Unfortunately, NBA Elite 11 is not yet ready and we have made a decision to delay next month’s launch. We are going to keep working until we’re certain we can deliver a breakthrough basketball experience.”

EA revealed last month that NBA Elite 11 will include access three downloadable game modes from NBA Jam, which also added to the speculation that Jam was destined for multi-platforms.

The Detroit native left for the bright lights of Gotham City in 2004, yet never turned her back on the community she called home. After enrolling at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Ms. Athena began her studies upon being accepted into the Advertising and Marketing Communications program. The regal beauty continues to advocate for eccentric beauties all over the world, promote her charitable endeavors, and contribute to change within her community. This week’s VIRGINIA SLIM grades President Obama on his performance, breaks out the tools to wake the mentally dead, and gives advice to the 99ers out there still struggling. Enjoy!

DLYDJ: After moving to New York in 2004 and signing with a model management company — can you describe how you begun your rise in the industry? What were some pros and cons to being such a statuesque model?

SA: I started modeling when I got into high school. My background is in athletics. I played basketball and ran track and field. I never gave too much attention to my height being useful for much else other than sports. One day, one of my teachers named Ms. Montgomery asked me if I had thought about modeling and invited me to come to an after-school workshop. She gave me the basics on walking and other tips and I instantly fell in love with the runway. From there I started doing hairshows and local botique fashion shows in Detroit. As much as I loved doing the shows and being in front of the camera through it all my dad was my coach and before modeling — nothing came before track and basketball. I mean how else would I pay for college? There were times I had to go straight from a game or meet — with baby wipes and a soapy wash cloth in hand — and rush straight to hair and make-up. Once I graduated I went to Huston Tillotson University in Austin, Texas on a track scholarship.

It was miserable when I first got there. I was so far away from home and I felt like I wasn’t pursuing my heart’s passion. Luckily I found it and my passion exploded once I did my first test shoot outside of my hometown with D. Brown. I thought it was awesome and continued to shoot with him until I moved to New York in the Summer of 2004. I was playing with fire going against what my father wanted me to do; taking such a risky chance by leaving college and a paid-in-full college tuition, but I had to follow my heart. Thinking about it now there aren’t any realistic cons to being a tall or statuesque model. There aren’t any cons about being petite, a senior, or a plus-size model, either. They’re all wonderful and beautiful in their own right. People really need to understand that in the industry there are only standards for those that choose to follow them. Everybody can be what they wish to be if they have the passion to achieve and persevere. Through my experiences I have learned that you have to be true to yourself and really play up to your unique qualities. What “icon” you know have we ever seen hit by superstardom by following a blueprint? All of the greats are trailblazers!

Nobody has ever seen anything like them in life and are instantly drawn to it. You can look at anyone from Michael Jackson to Bob Dylan to Lady Gaga. She was dropped from several labels until Interscope figured her out and the correct team (see: Akon) got behind her and supported her. Now she is considered the next “great one” and is the poster child for success. I can say that being “statuesque” has prevented me from being able to book certain gigs or appear in certain magazines, but I don’t look at that as a con. My look and my personality are specific to me and I don’t fall under what the industry could even call “standard”. Every single one of us who aspire to achieve our passions or goals should be out to do that!

DLYDJ: The recession is becoming hard on most Americans and almost unbearable for some New Yorkers. With jobs being hard to find, let alone harder to keep — what are some words of advice you can share to the people struggling during these hard times?

SA: Man… I can attest to being a part of the struggle firsthand. The other day my mentor told me, “Don’t listen to any of us old folk when we say things like, ‘Get it together,’ or ‘You should be here or there,’ et cetera. We haven’t had to live through all this nonsense. We don’t know how hard you young people truly have it. Nobody in any generation has ever seen anything like this.” So my words of advice — and I take it for myself first — is to not freak out and compare yourself to some level of success that you haven’t attained yet. Odds are you’re not that off from your goal and aren’t doing bad in the least. There are people far worse off who haven’t made half the strides that you have. Secondly, you must use your creativity and resources for the greater good. The most successful people I know are innovators that have built themselves from the ground up. Thirdly, and lastly, look to nature for your answers. How do we multiply and become fruitful? By teaming up! We are not put on this Earth to do it all alone and nowadays it’s extremely difficult to trust someone, but we must get to the next level. Back in the day, during the 60′s movement, we teamed up big time and look how far it took up and the changes that came out of it as a result of being change agents. We have to get out of this selfish and gluttonous mindset that we have been conditioned to entertain if we want to effectively create change that would allow everyone to eat!

DLYDJ: Growing up have you ever been selfish when it comes to your video games? If so, then I have to ask, when did you lose your video game virginity?

SA: Unfortunately, I suck at video games. [Laughs] I actually liked ‘Parappa Tha Rappa‘ when I was young and I do love to play bowling on the Wii with my dad. I try to stay away from most games, but my friends are mostly competitive brats, and honestly those games just aren’t that serious or fun to me. I will say though that I lost my video game virginity to Atari. My older brothers used to play and as the pesky little sister I just wanted to be down, so I tried, but I kept getting my a** kicked.

DLYDJ: Being a fashion-minded person and with Fall on its way — what are some trends that both men and women should be looking out for and what are some that people should stay away from?

SA: To be straight up with you, I didn’t get a chance to see many of the shows this past February, but I will say that fashion is truly a funny thing. It’s translated so many different ways according to culture, society, and personal expression. Even though I am a part of this industry, I am not a product of it. One of my favorite quotes is, “Anybody can buy fashion, but style one must possess.” I don’t follow trends as I’m more into how I am feeling that day and wearing what’s best for me. I shop in one-off boutiques, thrift shops, and some consignment shops. I’ll even hit up a yard sale or two. My only advice I can share is that one must find their own voice and know that their style isn’t too far behind. Stay away from trends and what the industry tells you is cool. The clothes you wear on the outside should reflect the way you feel inside. I look at fashion as a form of creative expression. Alexander McQueen was a master at that and I love to support Tracy Reese, Anna Sui, and John Varvatos — all American designers from Detroit! One day I want to attend fashion week in Milan, I know it’s a completely different scene. Everything is abstract and extremely rare out there. They appreciate couture as an art form, not just a conversational piece, and that’s the way it was intended to be viewed! Similar to a Rembrandt painting, a signature Valentine couture design will cost you a lot of money, but will last you a lifetime! When it comes to folks copying your style, I have to say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Why would you want to protect yourself from that? People only imitate what they want to be — it happens.

DLYDJ: Your Facebook page alludes you to being an out-the-box thinker so I have to ask your thoughts about the Obama Administration and how it’s been handling all these issues?

SA: Oh, goodness! [Laughs] I am a conspiracy theorist in a sarcastic way. I take time out to read, ask questions, pay attention to the signs which help me to come up with my own ideas about what is going on around me. As far as President Obama is concerned, I like him. He is a real stand-up guy that gives a damn about the community and is doing his best under the rules he is given. We all know by now and through the Internet that he is not his own boss. The American government is set up to run itself in circles with the idea of “separation of powers”. But it’s not only that, he has kids to answer to before he answers to anybody. He has to sit at that breakfast table and answer a gabillion questions every morning from two little thinkers who are more politically aware than 90% of the population — if not more! So you tell me how would you answer the tough questions from your daughters who are only asking you honest questions? That man cannot look in their eye and lie. Hell, I have a hard time explaining why I pose in a bra and panties to my four-year-old niece, so I can’t even imagine having to deal with the day-to-day he does in his position. In the end, knowledge is power and awareness is key. The more people ask questions the harder it becomes to hide secrets. Folks may have gotten away with a lot in their time, but the people are way too aware and hungry for change.

DLYDJ: The Internet Age has allowed us to have information at the touch of our fingertips. You have an interesting quote about slaves on your Facebook page that prompts this question. What do you think it would take to wake up the mentally enslaved?

SA: Nowadays people are highly emotional. If there is anything that I’ve learned from being an Advertising and Marketing major is that if you want people to move to the beat of your drum, you have to speak to their desires and emotions. It’s extremely basic. You can look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and see what the basic levels are with what speaks to us and where we’re at as a people. At the bottom of that pyramid are the basic principles of most advertisements and are easily targeted to urban areas. Stuff like food and shelter are needed for survival, but unfortunately, these aren’t the concerns of the community. At the top of the pyramid you have peak experiences, this is well after your basic needs are met, where safety is not an issue, and you’re basically happy psychologically and physically. These are the high-end luxury ads that are targeted towards the affluent. The point of all this is that people will wake up when we figure out what to say to one another that doesn’t offend and only wakes them up. Industries have to stop manipulating the people by making them feel that they need to take or consume more and convince them that they need to give more. Some will never get the picture, but with the right message, I believe most will. The change is in the new generation. It’s making your message one that they can believe in and have them continue on and spread the word. I know that sounds really cliché but I have seen it work. Personally, I am a direct result of that. My parents and the community that raised me have very strong values and while there are some that aren’t as successful, I can tell you that I grew up amongst some extremely influential indivduals. Individuals like Braylon Edwards, John Brown (R&B), Jordan and Joeseph Crawford (NCAA/NBA), Ken Ferguson (Track), Kelli Coleman (Global Hue Marketing) and they contribute to the community. You also have nurses, doctors, professional fundraisers, and more that all graduated a year before or after me from Detroit. I don’t take it as a coincidence. I feel as though our parents all raised us with one purpose in mind — to get out of Detroit and do better. Now, it’s our turn to influence the youth and inspire them to be great!

EA has announced the “Be A Goalkeeper” mode for FIFA 11 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

According to EA you’ll be able to experience the thrill of the one on one battle, making the great save from a free kick, punching balls safely out of danger, the pressure of the corner, and most importantly, keeping a clean sheet.

You’ll be able to choose from three levels of assistance and play as the goalie in Career Mode. For the first time online games will allow every player on the pitch to be played by a real human, making for proper 11 v 11 matches. Chelsea FC and Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Čech has been signed as the spokesperson for Be A Goalkeeper and will be featured in advertising, marketing and promotional campaigns.

“The phenomenal growth of online gaming and the desire of our fans to be able to play as the goalie was the driving force behind this innovation for FIFA 11,” said Kaz Makita, Executive Producer. “Friends can play alongside each other in their pro clubs with all 11 virtual players on the pitch human controlled. We have finally replicated football in the virtual world.”

FIFA 11 will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, PS2, DS and PSP on October 1. A demo for the game will be released on September 16.
