Using the baseball video game MLB 09 The Show, Sony has used their PlayStation 3 to call a win for our very own Phillies!

Like most sports video games, MLB 09 The Show uses current player and team stats to present an authentic baseball experience. Sony pitted the two teams against each other using the game’s programmed artificial intelligence; so no fallible human hands directed the faceoff. This was a pure stats crunch, pure and simple!

Lee comes up aces, Utley homers twice as Phillies beat Yankees 6-1 in World Series opener. PlayStation 3 predicts Phillies win the World Series in 7 games.

The PS3 slim predicted the Phillies would take Game 1 with a score of 12 to 3, which is relatively similar to the game’s actual score of 6 to 1… so maybe Sony is on to something! The Show went on to say tonight’s Game 2 would go to the Yanks, 5-4 in ten innings.

The rest of the simulated Series is as follows: Phillies win Game 3 and 4, then the Yankees rally to win Games 5 and 6 with a demoralizing low runs by the Phils. But in game 7, the Phillies stage a comeback and win 8 to 2.

MLB The Show also called the Phils’ key players, naming Chase Utley as the theoretical MVP with 4 home runs and 8 RBIs.
